It was a jam-packed day across Major League Baseball on August 28. The Rays and Braves were going for their 80th wins, and got them. The Red Sox and Yankees started a pivotal series in New York. And for the first time in a Dodgers uniform, Tarik Skubal took to the mound in Detroit.
Dodgers win in Detroit
The Dodgers won 2-1 against the Tigers after Freddie Freeman gave Los Angeles the lead with an RBI single in the eighth.
Tarik Skubal started the game in his first game at Comerica Park since before the trade in early August. Skubal struck out seven over six innings. For those wondering, Skubal received a healthy amount of cheers in his return but also some jeers.
Tigers starter Drew Anderson walked five over 4.2 IP. He also struck out five.
Rays take down Padres
The Rays 9-4 in Tropicana Field against the Padres.
San Diego starter Casey Mize allowed seven runs, although just two of them were earned. Yandy Diaz and Cedric Mullins hit home runs, while Chandler Simpson and Taylor Walls each had two hits.
Shane McClanahan picked up his 10th win of the season.
Braves handle Rockies
The Braves won 6-4 over the Rockies. Grant Holmes picked up his ninth win of the season, while Raisel Iglesias notched his 29th save of 2026.
Tomoyuki Sugano allowed 10 total hits and six runs in the loss for Colorado. Mickey Moniak and Zac Veen each had two hits.
Ronald Acuna Jr. had three hits, while Drake Baldwin, Michael Harris II, Mauricio Dubon, and Sean Murphy each had two hits. Harris II hit his 22nd home run of the year in the win.
Twins lose in Jenkins’ debut
The White Sox picked up a big win in Minnesota, defeating the Twins 7-4.
Luis Castillo only went four innings in this one for Chicago. However, the offense and bullpen picked him up. Hagen Smith, Bryan Hudson, and Grant Taylor tossed five combined scoreless innings. Colson Montgomery had two hits, one of which was his 28th home run of the year.
Brooks Lee and Kody Clemens both hit their 22nd home runs of the year. And speaking of hits, Walker Jenkins went 1-for-3 with a walk in his MLB debut.
Schlittler shuts out Red Sox
In a pitcher’s duel at Yankee Stadium, Cam Schlittler outfoxed Patrick Sandoval to help the Yankees win 1-0.
Schlittler walked five but struck out eight over 5.2 scoreless innings. Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo shot in the third for the only run scored in the game.
