Tampa Bay continued their march towards the AL East crown on the 13th, as the Rays handily defeated the Astros. Speaking of Houston, their hold on the AL West diminished thanks to the Rangers winning in Arizona.

Rays blow out Astros

The Rays took down the Astros 14-4 to win their AL-leading 90th game of the season.

Freddy Peralta was fantastic, as he struck out four over five no-hit innings for the Rays. Tampa Bay’s offense had four home runs, two of which were hit by Jonathan Aranda. Five Rays had multi-hit games, including Victor Mesa Jr., who had three.

Isaac Paredes, Nick Allen, and Nelson Velazquez all went deep for the Astros.

Rangers inch closer to Houston

The Rangers won 7-6 in Arizona to move to one game behind the Astros for the top spot in the AL West.

Arizona nearly completed a comeback, down 7-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. Nolan Arenado hit a three-run shot in the seventh to make it 7-4. Later, in the ninth, Tim Tawa and Jordan Lawlar each hit RBI doubles to cut the lead to one. Jacob Latz, though, was able to shut the door in the ninth.

Corey Seager had three hits, one of which was his 18th home run of the year.

Guardians take down Twins

The Guardians won 9-2 to complete their series with the Minnesota Twins.

Cleveland’s offense hit three home runs, one of which was a leadoff shot from Steven Kwan. Jo Adell and Travis Bazzana followed up with homers of their own later on. Starter Tanner Bibee, meanwhile, struck out seven over 6.2 IP.

As for the Twins, Joe Ryan only made it through four innings. Trevor Larnach and Luke Keaschall each had two hits.

White Sox fall in St. Louis

The White Sox lost 3-1 to the Cardinals.

Chicago’s offense only got one run off Michael McGreevy, who struck out six over six innings. St. Louis scored all three of their runs via an Alec Burleson double that cleared the bases in the sixth.

With the White Sox’s loss, the Guardians are now half a game behind Chicago. Those two teams will meet in Cleveland this week.

Yankees win behind Schlittler

The Subway Series concluded with a 2-0 win for the Yankees, putting the club on the precipice of clinching a playoff spot.

Ben Rice hit his 38th home run of the season in the first, while Austin Wells went deep two innings later. That was all Cam Schlittler needed, as he struck out eight over six scoreless innings. Brent Headrick, Paul Blackburn, and David Bednar completed the shutout.

Christian Scott struck out seven over six innings for the Mets.
