October 3 marked the start of both the ALDS and NLDS, as all four series kicked off. The White Sox and Rays moved to early leads on the American League side, while the Brewers & Dodgers moved one step closer to a rematch.
White Sox win in Cleveland
The White Sox shut out the Guardians 3-0 to take Game 1 of the 2026 ALDS.
Chicago went out in front when Munetaka Murakami blasted an inside pitch from Parker Messick for a two-run shot in the fourth. Colson Montgomery added an RBI double in the seventh for insurance.
Five pitchers worked to shut out the Guardians. The one who logged the most innings was Grant Taylor, who tossed four scoreless frames and struck out the side in the ninth to complete a six-strikeout day.
Dodgers roll against Braves
Tarik Skubal struck out seven over six innings in Game 1, helping the Dodgers win 5-3 over the Braves.
Atlanta starter Dylan Dodd went three scoreless as the opener. But in the fourth, Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run shot off Victor Mederos. Kyle Tucker added with a two-run shot off AJ Smith-Shawver in the sixth. Max Muncy followed it up with a solo home run later in the sixth inning.
Sean Murphy and Ozzie Albies each hit home runs for the Braves.
Rasmussen, Rays shut out Yankees
The Rays won 1-0 in Game 1, thanks in large part to Tampa Bay’s pitching.
Jonathan Aranda hit a solo home run off Gerrit Cole in the third inning, all Drew Rasmussen needed on October 3. Rasmussen struck out 10 over eight innings and had a no-hitter through 7.2 IP. Austin Wells broke it up with a line-drive double but was thrown out at third to end the eighth inning.
Bryan Baker ended the game with a scoreless inning.
Brewers win behind Contreras’ home run
And in perhaps the wildest game of the day, the Brewers won 3-2 to take a 1-0 lead over the Brewers.
San Diego jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but Milwaukee rallied back. Jackson Chourio hit a two-run home run in the third to tie it, and William Contreras gave the Brewers a one-run lead in the seventh.
In the ninth inning, things got interesting. Ty France hit a high fly-ball that hit the railing on the roof in Milwaukee, which was eventually caught by Chourio. After review, it was determined that the ball was in fair play, leaving the out call to stand.
