Game 1 of the 2026 World Series is in the books. Milwaukee drew first blood, as timely hitting and strong bullpen work once again helped the Brewers win a game. But for the Rays, this was an incredibly tight loss.
Brewers take 1-0 lead
Tampa Bay threatened in the first, as Jonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson got on base in the opening frame. However, Junior Caminero lined out to third, which made it very easy to double off Aranda. That opened the door for the Brewers to score in the first inning. Christian Yelich hit an RBI triple to start the game, and William Contreras brought him in to make it 2-0.
Liam Hicks got the Rays on the board in the fourth, as a ground ball scored Junior Caminero to make it 2-1.
Both starters went five innings in this one. It was Nick Martinez who was inducing more whiff and strikeouts in this one, as the Rays starter struck out five, along with a 23.8% Whiff%. For Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, he had just a 17.1% Whiff%. Nonetheless, he was able to get outs.
Milwaukee extended the lead when Jackson Chourio hit an RBI single in the seventh. Between that and strong bullpen work from Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby, the Brewers were able to give Trevor Megill a two-run lead heading into the ninth.
That is where things got interesting.
Like in the first, both Aranda and Simpson got on base. Caminero walked, which gave Liam Hicks a chance to do something with the bases loaded. He grounded out into what appeared to be an inning-ending double play.
However, instant replay confirmed that Cooper Pratt‘s right foot was off second. That allowed one run to score and kept the game alive. Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca to finish out the game for a second time.
What’s ahead?
Game 2 of the 2026 World Series is scheduled for October 24. Drew Rasmussen (Rays) will face Logan Henderson (Brewers).
