May 15 marked the start of Rivalry Weekend across Major League Baseball, a three-day stretch that will feature interleague rivalries, as well as notable intraleague matchups. It also saw Juan Soto, who hit his 250th career home run on the 15th, face his old team, the Yankees. Plus, Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers were victorious in his return to Anaheim.

Yankees win first Subway Series game

The Yankees took the first Subway Series game of 2026, 5-2.

Cam Schlittler was impressive yet again, as the sophomore starter struck out nine over 6.2 IP, lowering his ERA to 1.35. The Yanks were able to generate offense in the third thanks to doubles from Cody Bellinger and Jazz Chisholm Jr. Ben Rice hit his 14th home run in the ninth.

Clay Holmes wasn’t able to last five innings in this game. His pitch count was high after four innings but what did Holmes in was a line-drive hit off the bat of Spencer Jones in the fourth.

Holmes was diagnosed with a fractured fibula.

Cubs beat White Sox

The Cubs put up 10 on the White Sox, as Chicago’s National League club took the first game of their three-game set on the South Side.

Every starter in the Cubs’ lineup picked up at least a hit. Carson Kelly drove in one of his four RBI in the seventh, in a sequence where the Cubs scored six unanswered runs between the seventh and eighth innings. Kelly, by the way, had three hits, while Alex Bregman, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki had two.

Colson Montgomery hit his 12th home run of the year for the White Sox, one of three home runs for the club. Miguel Vargas tallied his 10th, while Jarred Kelenic hit his first with the team off Javier Assad.

Arrighetti tossed seven no-hit innings

The Astros shut out their in-division & in-state rival, the Texas Rangers, 2-0, and Spencer Arrighetti was the difference.

Arrighetti tossed 7.1 no-hit innings against the Rangers until his bid for one was broken up by Justin Foscue. The right-hander, nonetheless, pitched extremely well, as that was the only one he gave up in a five-strikeout performance.

Isaac Paredes hit his fourth home run of 2026 for the Astros.

Schwarber up to 20

Brandon Marsh and Rafael Marchan combined to drive in three runs for the Phillies, who won 11-9 in extra innings in the battle of the Keystone State.

It was a day for the sluggers, as Brandon Lowe hit two more home runs for the Pirates. However, it was Kyle Schwarber who stole the show, as he hit two of his own to become the first in the Majors this season to reach the 20-home run plateau.

Schwarber had three hits, while Bryce Harper tallied four.

Dodgers shut out Angels

Will Klein and the Dodgers’ pitching staff were able to piece things together on May 15. Los Angeles shut out the Angels 6-0.

Andy Pages, Max Muncy, and Teoscar Hernandez all hit home runs for the Dodgers.
