Rivalry Weekend 2026 concluded on May 17 with another slate of 15 games across the MLB schedule. The day saw the Mets pick up a win over the Yankees, while their NL East rival, Philadelphia, continues to roll with another win of their own.
Mets take series from Yankees
In what an interesting and somewhat sloppy affair, the Mets beat the Yankees 7-6 on May 17 to take the teams’ first series of the year.
Walks and a major error by Bo Bichette nearly did in the Mets. The Mets walked nine batters, six of whom were on Freddy Peralta‘s ledger. However, the team from Queens forced a 6-6 tie in the ninth after Tyrone Taylor hit a three-run shot off Yankees closer David Bednar.
A fielder’s choice from Carson Benge gave the Mets the win in the 10th.
Phillies sweep Pirates
It was aces wild in Pittsburgh, as Zack Wheeler and Paul Skenes faced off. And, the Phillies came out on top, 6-0.
Zack Wheeler was masterful, as he struck out eight over seven scoreless innings to win his third game of 2026. Since his return from the IL, Wheeler is 3-0 with a 1.99 ERA.
As for Skenes, he struck out seven over five innings and conceded five runs. One of those was courtesy of Bryce Harper, who hit his 12th home run of the season. It was also his second straight game with a home run.
The Phillies are 11-4 in their last 15 contests.
Dodgers win, Angels lose sixth straight
Yet again, the Dodgers beat up on the Angels, as the reigning World Series champions won 10-1.
Grayson Rodriguez, who was acquired from the Orioles last November, made his debut for the Halos. It did not go well, as Rodriguez walked four, gave up seven hits, and seven earned runs.
Shohei Ohtani, meanwhile, continued to torch his old team. Ohtani had three hits, as did Kyle Tucker.
The Angels now have an MLB-high 31 losses.
Padres sweep
The Padres went a perfect 6-0 in the “Vedder Cup,” as San Diego won 8-3 over the Mariners in Seattle.
Gavin Sheets was the story here, as he went 3-3 with two walks, two home runs, and four RBI for the Padres. Ty France, the former Mariner, hit his old team hard, as he picked up three hits in the victory.
Seattle picked up just one hit, which came from Luke Raley. Colt Emerson went 0-2 with a walk in his MLB debut.
Guards take series versus Reds
The Guardians’ offense hit six home runs on May 17 to deliver a 10-3 victory over the Reds.
Chase DeLauter hit his seventh home run of the year in the first. Kyle Manzardo drilled two, while Jose Ramirez, Brayan Rocchio, and Angel Martinez also tallied home runs.
Gavin Williams struck out seven over six innings to pick up his sixth win of 2026.
