May 18 was a big day across MLB, which featured several 2025 playoff rematches, plus theatrics in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Plus, the Dodgers & Padres squared off with first place on the line in the NL West.
Angels go from no-no to win
The Angels were no-hit for eight innings by J.T. Ginn of the Athletics. However, Los Angeles (AL) had the last laugh.
This was a pitcher’s duel, to say the least. Ginn struck out 10 over eight, while Walbert Urena struck out four over six scoreless innings, and the game was scoreless into the ninth. However, a single from Lawrence Butler gave the A’s the lead.
But in the bottom of the ninth, Ginn came out and immediately gave up a single to Adam Frazier. Then, the next batter, Zach Neto, drilled a two-run shot to give the Angels a walk-off win.
Phillies extend win streak to five
Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott hit home runs for the Phillies, who now have a five-game win streak heading into May 19.
Andrew Painter was effective, as he only gave up two runs over six innings.
Mets have monstrous inning
The Mets scored 10 runs in the 12th inning to give the team a 16-7 win over the Nationals.
In a back-and-forth affair, Carson Benge drove Tyrone Taylor in the 12th, the first of two hits that he had in that inning. Benge wound up driving in Marcus Semien and A.J. Ewing later in the inning, and the Mets’ 10-run inning ended with a two-run double from Bo Bichette.
Bichette drove in three runs and picked up three hits in the contest.
Padres stymie Dodgers
The Padres defeated the Dodgers 1-0 in the first game of their series in San Diego.
Miguel Andujar hit a home run in the first, the only run scored in the game. Aside from that, the pitchers dominated. Michael King struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto had eight strikeouts over seven.
Jason Adam and Mason Miller finished out the game for the Padres.
Emerson hits first MLB home run
Bryan Woo struck out eight over six scoreless innings, as Seattle won 6-1 over the White Sox.
Josh Naylor had three hits in the victory. Colt Emerson hit a three-run home run off Trevor Richards for his first hit & homer at the big-league level.
