Boston’s hot streak over the last five weeks has not only put the club in playoff position but also right on the heels of the Yankees. The Red Sox got even closer thanks to an extra-innings win over the White Sox. Plus, the Braves picked up win #70 on the season.
Boston sweeps Chicago
The White Sox & Red Sox traded runs for this entire game. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, Chicago was up 7-5 before a Masataka Yoshida RBI double, followed by a Wilyer Abreu RBI single in the ninth that tied the game & sent it to extras.
Chase Meidroth hit his second home run of the game in the 10th, a two-run shot, to make it a two-run game. That half inning, an Andruw Monasterio RBI double and Anthony Seigler sac fly tied it up again. The two clubs traded sacrifice flies in the 11th.
In the 12th, the White Sox took the lead on a Sam Antonacci RBI single. But later on, Jake Rogers tied it with a sac fly. One inning later, Caleb Durbin drove in the game-winning run to give Boston yet another win.
With that win, the Red Sox have now one seven straight games and are a half-a-game behind the Yankees for the top AL Wild Card spot. The White Sox, meanwhile, are three games ahead of the Twins & Guardians.
Guardians swept by Mets
Cleveland didn’t make up any ground, as the Guardians lost 13-6 to the Mets, which swept the team.
Trade deadline pickup Foster Griffin struck out six in his Guardians debut but only last four innings. The Guardians’ bullpen struggled, as Craig Yoho & Slade Cecconi combined to give up seven earned runs. Oddly enough, the relief came from Austin Hedges, who struck out one and didn’t allow a run in 1.1 innings of mop-up work.
Luis Robert Jr., Carson Benge, and Marcus Semien each had three hits. Semien, along with Luis Torrens and Francisco Lindor, all hit home runs.
Tigers take series in Seattle
Don’t look now but the Tigers are back in it.
The Tigers won 11-0 in Seattle, taking a big road series in Seattle. Framber Valdez struck out five over seven scoreless, while the offense combined for 16 hits. Dillon Dingler had three hits, one of which was his 26th home run of the year.
The Tigers are now one game out of the final AL Wild Card spot.
Atlanta wins 70th game
Six pitchers helped the Braves make up nine innings in an 11-3 victory over the Miami Marlins.
Mauricio Dubon‘s excellent 2026 season continued, as he picked up four hits on the day for the Braves.
Ronald Acuna Jr. had two home runs, while Matt Olson hit his 32nd home run of the season.
Sanchez wins 15th game
Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sanchez struck out six and allowed teo runs, as the left-hander picked up his 15th win of the year in a 7-3 victory over the Nationals.
Seven Phillies had two hits in this one, including Luis Arraez. The deadline had a double and an RBI in the contest.
As for the Nationals, rookie Andrew Pinckney hit his first career home run.
