Throughout the 2026 season thus far, the Diamondbacks have cycled through several options to fill out the first base role. Carlos Santana was one of those players but he after eight games, the D-Backs cut him on June 24.

Santana cut by D-Backs

The Diamondbacks officially designated Carlos Santana for assignment on June 24.

Santana, who signed with Arizona in the winter, only played eight games with the club this season. He spent most of the year on the IL and played rehab games down in the Minors before Santana was cut.

Across eight games this season, Santana slashed .083/.154/.125 with one extra-base hit.

Royals sign Velazquez

The Royals signed former Major League infielder Andrew Velazquez to a Minor League deal.

Velazquez slashed .274/.335/.390 with three home runs and 10 extra-base hits for the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate. The former Yankee was released by Arizona in mid-June.

Marco Raya (Twins), Jonathan Pintaro (Mets), Winston Santos (Rangers), Seth Halvorsen (Rockies), Josh Lowe (Angels), Gavin Hollowell (Cubs), Oswaldo Cabrera (Yankees), Kody Funderburk (Twins), and Carson Palmquist (Nationals) were recalled from the Minors.

JR Ritchie (Braves), Jose Corniell (Rangers), Dax Fulton (Marlins), Kendry Rojas (Twins), Kohl Drake (D-Backs), and Paxton Schultz (Nationals were optioned to the Minors.

Other notes

Ian Hamilton (Braves) and Vince Velasquez (Cubs) had their contracts selected.

Carlos Carrasco (Braves), Austin Voth (Twins), and Eduarniel Nunez (Cubs) were designated for assignment.
