The final day of the 2026 preseason schedule saw quite a bit of significant action. Aside from the reported six-year extension for Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Cubs put the finishing touches on their roster by selecting former Cardinal Dylan Carlson. Plus, the Dodgers picked up a reliever that the team faced in the 2024 World Series against the Yankees.
Dodgers add former Yankee reliever
The Dodgers made a late signing on March 24, as the team added former Yankee Jake Cousins on a Major League deal.
Cousins missed all of last year on the IL. He started 2025 on the injured list with a right elbow flexor strain and made two rehab appearances in High-A. However, no appearances at the high level.

When Cousins was healthy, the 31-year-old turned in several nice seasons with both the Brewers and Yankees. Mid-90s sinker with running action, and a slider that comes from a side-arm delivery. Cousins’ slider had a nearly-50% swing-and-miss rate two years ago.
Tigers cut Jung
After the Tigers announced that Kevin McGonigle had made the team’s Opening Day roster, Detroit made several other roster moves.
Infielder Jace Jung was optioned to Triple-A Toledo. The former first-round pick slashed .325/.426/.425 across 21 contests.
Outfielders Trei Cruz and Wenceel Perez were also sent back to Toledo.
Carlson selected by Cubs
The Cubs selected the contract of outfielder Dylan Carlson on March 24. Carlson was on a Minor League deal with the team.
The switch-hitting outfielder slashed .298/.421/.404 with three extra-base hits and eight walks over 20 contests. There was some swing-and-miss there for Carlson, who struck out 15 times. As of March 24, his Whiff% on four-seamers was above 28%.
Other moves
The Brewers acquired pitcher Jake Woodford from the Rays for Minor League pitcher K.C. Hunt. Hunt, a 25-year-old, has a low-90s fastball, a mid-80s slider, and a curveball in his repertoire. Last season, Hunt struck out 122 over 121 innings and owned a 32% Whiff% in the Double-A Southern League, good for the top 20% in that circuit.
Additionally, the Rays promoted Joe Boyle, Carson Williams, and Richie Palacios to the MLB level. Those three will take the places of Ryan Pepiot, Taylor Walls, and Gavin Lux, all of whom were placed on the IL. Hunter Bigge was demoted to Triple-A.
The Giants optioned outfielders Will Brennan and Drew Gilbert to Triple-A Sacramento.
Atlanta claimed pitcher Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the Yankees. It’s the second time that the Braves have claimed Bido, as Atlanta did so previously in December.
