Just days after Lazaro Montes joined the Mariners, another top prospect within the Seattle system joined the big-league club. That would be Michael Arroyo, who was promoted to the Mariners on September 6.

Arroyo up with Mariners

The Mariners selected infielder Michael Arroyo from Triple-A Tacoma. Arroyo went 0-for-3 in his big-league debut.

A 21-year-old middle infielder, Arroyo is a right-handed hitter who slashed .283/.359/.417 with 18 home runs and 46 extra-base hits over 114 contests, split between Double-A and Triple-A. With Triple-A Tacoma, he belted eight of those 18 home runs in 49 games.

As we noted back in August, Arroyo is an adept contact hitter, especially with respect to pitches inside the strike zone. The Colombian native had no trouble getting to balls either inside him or at the middle of the strike zone.

However, he did have a problem expanding out of the strike zone. But the Chase% dipped from July to August on virtually every pitch type.

Arroyo had to be added to the 40-man roster before the end of November, or else he would have been exposed in the Rule 5 Draft.

DFA’s

Max Kepler‘s time with the Diamondbacks is over. Arizona designated him for assignment on September 6, ending his nearly-three month tenure with the club.

Kepler was suspended as of his signing, as he was popped with an 80-game PED suspension during the offseason. He hit for little power during his time with Arizona, as Kepler slashed .210/.273/.311 with two home runs and eight extra-base hits over 37 contests as a D-Back.

Additionally, Albert Suarez (Orioles) and Sam Moll (Reds) were also DFA’d.
