Throughout the month, several players who had Major League experience and were previously outrighted elected free agency. More players joined that group this week, including Tyler Freeman, Miles Mastrobuoni, and MJ Melendez.
More outrighted players go to free agency
Aside from Luke Williams, who was outrighted earlier in October by the Braves, Tyler Freeman (Rockies), Luis Vazquez (Orioles), Miles Mastrobuoni (Mariners), Vidal Brujan (Mets), and MJ Melendez (Mets) all became free agents officially on the 15th.
Mastrobuoni spent two seasons with the Mariners after the Cubs traded him to Seattle in January 2025 for cash. Seattle outrighted him to Triple-A in July. He played 13 games in 2026 with the Mariners, slashing .192/.241/.192.
Freeman saw a healthy amount of playing time in 2025 with the Rockies, and he did get into 79 games for the Rockies this past year. The former Guardian slashed .247/.317/.314 with 10 extra-base hits.
Melendez was given a Major League contract by the Mets in February but spent most of the 2026 season in the Minors. In 56 games (244 PA), Melendez slashed .192/.315/.350 with four home runs and 10 extra-base hits.
Brujan also spent much of 2026 in Triple-A Syracuse with Melendez. The journeyman utilityman slashed .091/.167/.091 in 13 plate appearances with the Mets and played 65 games for Syracuse.
Vazquez played one game for the Orioles and didn’t receive a plate appearance.
