With September 1 on the horizon, expect playoff-bound teams to make some depth moves to shore up positions. The Red Sox made a depth move on August 28, bringing in former Met Tomas Nido. And speaking of the Mets, Chris Devenski is back with the club.
Mets bring back Devenski
The Mets selected Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse.
Devenski pitched in 13 games last season with the Mets, posting a sub-3.00 ERA in that stretch. The right-hander was with the Pirates organization this year until he was released by Pittsburgh in early August.
Red Sox add Nido
The Red Sox signed catcher Tomas Nido to a Minor League deal. Nido was assigned to Triple-A Worcester.
Nido spent most of 2026 in the Tigers organization. He re-signed with Detroit on a Minor League deal earlier in the year and spent time in Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers released him in July.

Tyler Gilbert (White Sox), Adam Macko (Rangers), Edwin Arroyo (Reds), Thomas Saggese (Cardinals), CJ Van Eyk (Blue Jays), Kohl Drake (Diamondbacks), and Evan Sisk (Pirates) were recalled from the Minors.
Noah Murdock (Pirates), Kevin Alcantara (Cubs), Xzavion Curry (Mets), Drew Rom (Athletics), Luis Vasquez (Orioles), Alan Roden (Twins), Juan Burgos (Diamondbacks), and Bryce Teodosio (Angels) were optioned.
Other notes
Simeon Woods Richardson (Blue Jays) and Woo-Suk Go (Twins) were designated for assignment.
Brewers infielder Jonathan Ornelas was sent outright to Triple-A Nashville. However, he elected free agency.
The Angels released outfielder Cade Marlowe, who was in Triple-A.
