The 13th of April was a busy day as far as moves were concerned. Several notable players, including Hunter Barco and Noelvi Marte, were demoted to Triple-A. Additionally, Tommy Pham is back in the Majors, and the Reds found a home for Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
Pham back with Mets
The Mets selected Tommy Pham‘s contract on April 13.
Pham was immediately inserted into the Mets’ lineup. He joins the team amid a stretch where the Mets have struggled to score runs. He slashed .167/.353/.250 over five games with Low-A St. Lucie.
In a corresponding move, the Mets demoted infielder Ronny Mauricio to Triple-A.
Orioles acquire Encarnacion-Strand
The Orioles acquired Christian Encarnacion-Strand from the Reds in a trade. Baltimore sent cash in the move.
Encarnacion-Strand was at one point a potential future cornerstone for the Reds thanks to his power. He hit 13 home runs in 270 plate appearances in his rookie season three years ago after a dominant run in the Minors.
However, injuries and a nasty habit of expanding out of the zone have hurt his future value. Yet, the now-Oriole was one of the best power hitters in the International League last season. He finished with one of the ten best Barrel% rates in the circuit that year.
Encarnacion-Strand was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after the move.
Additionally, the Orioles selected the contract of former Phillie Weston Wilson.

Shay Whitcomb (Astros), Orlando Ribalta (Nationals), Dean Kremer (Orioles), Colton Gordon (Astros), Kyle Hurt (Dodgers), Rolddy Munoz (Braves), Jackson Rutledge (Nationals), J.P. France (Astros), Seth Johnson (Phillies), and Evan Sisk (Pirates) were recalled by their respective teams.
Dylan Dodd (Braves), Hunter Barco (Pirates), Cade Povich (Orioles), C.J. Kayfus (Guardians), Noelvi Marte (Reds), Valente Bellozo (Rockies), and Jayden Murray (Astros) were optioned to Triple-A.
Other moves
Kolby Allard (Guardians), Luke Williams (Braves), and Jared Shuster (Cardinals) were designated for assignment.
Detroit claimed pitcher Yoniel Curet from the Phillies.
The Yankees returned Rule 5 Draft pick Cade Winquest to the Cardinals.
