For the last four years, Yennier Cano has provided stability for an Orioles bullpen that hasn’t had much of it thanks to injuries. On July 31, the Orioles made him the latest extended pitcher, as the club gave Cano a multi-year extension that could keep him in Baltimore through 2029.

Orioles announce flurry of moves

The Orioles announced that reliever Yennier Cano was given a two-year extension through the 2028 campaign. Plus, Cano received a team option for the 2029 campaign.

It ensures that Cano, one of the more valuable relievers and one who’s been with the club since he was acquired in 2022 from the Twins, will stick around for a little longer.

Additionally, the Orioles designated for assignment catcher Chadwick Tromp, a corresponding move after Jake Rogers was activated. Rogers was acquired via trade on the 30th.

DFA’s

Here’s a look at who else was DFA’d on July 31:

• Chen Zhong-Ao Zhuang (Athletics)

Zhuang’s designation is an interesting one. The right-hander was one of the top strikeout pitchers from the Texas League last season. However, he was hit hard in Triple-A Las Vegas, as Zhuang posted an ERA close to 8.00.

Enmanuel De Jesus (Tigers), Luis Curvelo (Rangers), Antoine Kelly (Cubs), Andrew Painter (Phillies), Leo Rivas (Mariners), Xzavion Curry (Mets), Antwone Kelly (Pirates), Jonathan Pintaro (Mets), and Alex Cook (Rays) were recalled.

Braxton Fulford (Rockies), Adam Macko (Blue Jays), Winston Santos (Rangers), Brian Keller (Phillies), Josh Smith (Rangers). Colby Thomas (Athletics), Brenan Hanifee (Tigers), Connor Thomas (Athletics), Hunter Barco (Pirates), and Yohendrick Pinango (Blue Jays) were optioned.
