The Reds’ rotation has been depleted this season thanks to injuries. To fill out another hole, Cincinnati brought in pitcher Chris Paddack, who was a free agent after he was released by the Marlins earlier this season.
Paddack joins Reds
Chris Paddack joined the Reds on a Major League deal.
Cincinnati’s rotation has taken a beating in recent weeks, as Hunter Greene & Brandon Williamson are on the IL. And on May 13, Rhett Lowder joined those with right shoulder pain.
Thus, the Reds will hope that Paddack, who had trouble with the long ball before he was DFA’d and released by Miami, can find better form in a new uniform.
Paddack is scheduled to make his Reds debut on May 16 versus the Guardians.
Hendriks to Chicago
The Cubs have signed reliever Liam Hendriks to a Minor League deal.
Hendriks pitched this spring with the Twins on a Minor League deal but did not make the team out of camp. The former All-Star walked five and struck out five over seven innings with Minnesota.
He last pitched in the Majors with the Red Sox in 2025.
Recalls & options
Codi Heuer (Guardians), Hayden Senger (Mets), Maverick Handley (Orioles), and Mason Barnett (Athletics) were recalled from the Minors.
Franco Aleman (Guardians) was optioned to Triple-A.
Other notes
Reds catcher P.J. Higgins and Mariners pitcher Jose Suarez were designated for assignment.
Framber Valdez was activated from his suspension.
