After a one-week stay on the IL, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. appears to be ready to return. The Blue Jays first baseman, after one rehab game, is likely to return to action against the New York Yankees this coming weekend.
Guerrero Jr. likely back this weekend
Blue Jays manager John Schneider telegraphed on August 21 that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is expected back on August 22.
Guerrero Jr. passed all concussion tests and played one rehab game, which came on August 20 in Florida while the team was in St. Petersburg.
In other injury-related news for the Blue Jays, Andres Gimenez (hamstring) did not play against the Yankees.
Woo pushed back
Mariners manager Dan Wilson indicated that Bryan Woo won’t start this weekend, as the right-hander deals with a shoulder injury.
Woo was originally scheduled to start on the 22nd against the Cubs, a day that will now be covered by the debuting Kade Anderson. He won’t start on the 23rd, either, as Bryce Miller will take that spot.
IL moves
The Athletics placed infielder Jacob Wilson on the 10-day IL with a shoulder subluxation.
Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon was placed on the 10-day IL with a left thumb strain.
Blue Jays infielder Josh Smith landed on the IL with left hamstring inflammation.
The Cardinals placed starter Andre Pallante on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.
Nick Kurtz (thumb strain), William Kempner (elbow strain), and Matt Brash (lat strain) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Worcester. In other rehab-related news for the Red Sox, Roman Anthony went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts for Double-A Portland.
Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen struck out two over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Mets infielder Mark Vientos went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts for Double-A Binghamton.
Other notes
Cardinals pitcher Hunter Dobbins was pulled from his start thanks to forearm tightness.
Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet is now throwing from 90 feet (h/t New York Times).
Astros infielder Jeremy Pena (hand) was not in the lineup for the club on August 21 against the Athletics.
CJ Abrams (ankle sprain) did not play for the Nationals against the Marlins.
