Last winter, there were only three managerial changes — small compared to past offseasons. This winter, there’s potential for a lot more. With the end of the 2025 regular season came managerial changes, as several MLB teams are looking for new leaders to lead their benches. And, one team filled its vacancy within the first week of the offseason.
Which teams will have new managers in 2026?
At least eight teams will have new managers in 2026, as the Angels, Braves, Giants, Rangers, and Twins all either dismissed or mutually agreed to part ways with their 2025 manager.
The Padres’ job opened up on October 13 after their 2025 manager retired.
Baltimore and Washington hired replacements for interim managers who finished out the 2025 season.

Skip Schumaker, who left the Marlins after the 2024 campaign, was hired to fill the Rangers’ open manager position. Schumaker, an advisor in the team’s front office last season, takes over for Bruce Bochy.
Bochy and the Rangers mutually agreed to part ways after the regular season.
The Angels hired Kurt Suzuki, the former Major League catcher who spent his final two seasons with the team. Suzuki was working in the Angels’ front office.
The Los Angeles Angels were looking for a new manager yet again, after the team hired Ron Washington two years ago. Washington was there for two seasons but missed much of 2025 on medical leave.
San Francisco, meanwhile, hired Tony Vitello from the University of Tennessee. Vitello helped build the Tennessee baseball program to powerhouse status, producing high-end pro talent & winning in the minefield known as the SEC. Bob Melvin served in that role for two years.
Vitello was replaced by Josh Elander in Knoxville.
The Orioles hired Guardians coach Craig Albernaz to replace Tony Mansolino, who went 60-59 after he took over from Brandon Hyde.
Washington picked former Rays minor league manager Blake Butera to replace interim Miguel Cairo. Cairo went 29-43 after he replaced Davey Martinez as manager.
Minnesota hired former Pirates manager Derek Shelton, let go last spring by Pittsburgh, to replace Rocco Baldelli.
Atlanta hired Walt Weiss on November 3 to replace outgoing manager Brian Snitker.
Lastly, Padres manager Mike Shildt retired on October 13, 2025, after two seasons as San Diego manager. The Padres made the playoffs in both seasons that Shildt was manager. Shildt was replaced by ex-Padres pitcher Craig Stammen.
Some of the team mentioned above finished the year with interim managers, including the aforementioned Orioles, Nationals, and Rockies.
Warren Schaeffer took over from Bud Black in Colorado as interim manager. However, the Rockies — who are looking for a new GM/president of baseball ops — have not yet decided on Schaeffer’s future.
