Every MLB offseason generally brings changes, both to teams’ rosters and benches. Last season, nearly a third of Major League teams changed managers. So, which MLB teams have or will change managers for the 2025 campaign? Here’s a look at all managerial changes during the 2024-25 offseason.
Which teams will have new managers in 2025?
Assuming no teams fire their manager between now and Opening Day 2025, three teams will have new managers for next season: the Marlins, Reds, and White Sox.
That total is significantly lower than the 2023-24 offseason, when eight teams changed their managers after the 2023 campaign. Interestingly enough, five of those eight squads made the 2024 Postseason, including Milwaukee (Pat Murphy), San Diego (Mike Shildt), and the Mets (Carlos Mendoza).

Here’s a look at the managerial changes slated for 2025:
| Team | 2024 Manager(s) | 2025 Manager |
|---|---|---|
| Marlins | Skip Schumaker | Clayton McCullough |
| Reds | David Bell/Freddie Benavides | Terry Francona |
| White Sox | Pedro Grifol/Grady Sizemore | Will Venable |
Three teams lost 100 or more games in 2024. Two of those teams, the Marlins and White Sox, will have new managers.
Chicago fired Pedro Grifol in August and replaced by Grady Sizemore on an interim basis. The White Sox set a MLB record for most losses by a team in a single season with 121, beating out the 1962 Mets (120). The Sox were 28-89 with Grifol and 13-32 under Sizemore.
For 2024, Will Venable will be the White Sox’s manager. Chicago named him as new manager on October 31, hiring him away from the Rangers’ staff. Venable played nine MLB seasons, primarily with the Padres.
Venable’s hire came a few weeks after the Reds hired Terry Francona to take over as manager. Francona left the Guardians after the 2023 season after health problems and was replaced by Stephen Vogt. Francona, a two-time World Series champion as manager of the Red Sox, now moves to Cincinnati.
The Reds had high expecations in 2024 after an 82-win season and an infusion of young talent, including Elly De La Cruz, Andrew Abbott, and Matt McLain. But despite a great season from De La Cruz and Hunter Greene, Cincinnati won 77 games and finished 16 games out of first in the NL Central.
Cincinnati fired David Bell late in the 2024 season. He was replaced by Freddie Benavides, who went 1-4 under the helm as interim manager.
The third team to have a new manager in 2025 is the Marlins. Miami reportedly hired Dodgers coach Clayton McCullough to replace Skip Schumaker.
Schumaker was the 2023 NL Manager of the Year after Miami made the playoffs that year. However, Schumaker opted not to stay after his contract expired and amidst a front office upheaval that began last winter. The former Cardinal joined the Rangers’ front office.
