The 2024 NCAA Regionals are set to begin on May 31, as 64 teams vie for eight spots in the College World Series. Now that the brackets are set and we’ve had time to mull over each one, it’s time to start our predictions. Here’s our preview and predictions for the 2024 NCAA Regionals, starting with the Athens Regional that will feature arguably the best hitter in college baseball.

Athens Regional

  1. Georgia (#7 National)
  2. UNC Wilmington
  3. Georgia Tech
  4. Army

Despite losing in the first round of the SEC Tournament, the Georgia Bulldogs made it as a top-eight seed. Yes, Charlie Condon played a massive role for the Bulldogs, but don’t forget Kolby Branch and Tre Phelps also played key roles offensively.

UNC Wilmington, though, could prove to be a problem for the other three teams in this Regional. Trevor Marsh and Tanner Thach were electric for the Seahawks.

Predicted Winner: Georgia

Charlottesville Regional

  1. Virginia (#12 National)
  2. Mississippi State
  3. St. John’s (NY)
  4. Penn

The Cavaliers are a top seed after a 41-15 campaign that saw Virginia score the sixth-most runs (541) in the nation. Virginia has a deep group on offense, led by Harrison Didawick, who hit 21 home runs for the Cavaliers, as well as potential 2024 early-round picks in Ethan Anderson and Griff O’Ferrall.

Virginia will have their hands full in this Regional, though. Dakota Jordan and Mississippi State were very competitive this season, while St. John’s put together an unheralded season en route to the Big East title.

Predicted Winner: Virginia

Chapel Hill Regional

  1. North Carolina (#4 National)
  2. LSU
  3. Wofford
  4. LIU

The Tar Heels enter the NCAA Tournament as the #4 seed but this regional is far from a cakewalk. The LSU Tigers enter the tourney as one of the nation’s hottest teams, as the boys from Baton Rouge nearly won the SEC Tournament and boast a loaded lineup that includes Tommy White, Jared Jones, and Steven Milam.

There’s also Wofford, the SoCon champions. Wofford was the nation’s second-best offense, as their 603 runs scored was only behind Austin Peay.

But for this Regional, we’ll take the team with the most talent.

Predicted Winner: LSU

Clemson Regional

  1. Clemson (#6 National)
  2. Vanderbilt
  3. Coastal Carolina
  4. High Point

The Clemson Tigers were one of the country’s most dangerous teams, thanks to a strong offense and two future pro pitchers in Aidan Knaak and Tristan Smith.

Coastal Carolina ran into trouble throughout 2024 but boasts a strong roster. And, Vanderbilt shouldn’t go away quietly. Still, Clemson has the group to get through.

Predicted Winner: Clemson

College Station Regional

  1. Texas A&M (#3 National)
  2. Louisiana
  3. Texas
  4. Grambling State

The Aggies have a fearsome group led by sluggers Gavin Grahovac, Braden Montgomery, and Jace LaViolette, and Ryan Prager leading things on the mound. Texas A&M, if all things go well, could be on a glid path to Omaha.

Predicted Winner: Texas A&M

Corvallis Regional

  1. Oregon State
  2. UC Irvine
  3. Nicholls
  4. Tulane

The sluggers will be out on Corvallis, as Oregon State finished just outside the top ten in home runs (112). All eyes will likely be on Travis Bazzana, the start infielder who should be on the shortlist for Cleveland in July. Bazzana, who hit 26 home runs in 2024, isn’t the only bat who could do damage. Sophomore Gavin Turley belted 18, and by the way, the Beavers can pitch, too.

Oregon State’s biggest competition should be UC Irvine, led by Jo Oyama, Anthony Martinez, and Caden Kendle. However, the Beavers have the deepest team in this Regional and should move on.

Predicted Winner: Oregon State

Fayetteville Regional

  1. Arkansas (#5 National)
  2. Louisiana Tech
  3. Kansas St.
  4. Southeast Missouri State

The Fayetteville Regional should feature several high-profile 2024 MLB Draft picks. Kaelen Culpepper and Tyson Neighbors are names to watch but all eyes will also be on Hagen Smith and Arkansas. The Razorbacks, who enter the Tournament with the best team ERA (3.66), are the clear frontrunners in this Regional.

Predicted Winner: Arkansas

Greenville (NC) Regional

  1. East Carolina (#16 National)
  2. Wake Forest
  3. VCU
  4. Evansville

One of the more interesting notes from the NCAA Tournament bracket reveal was East Carolina making it as a Regional host after a May that saw the Pirates lose out on the AAC Postseason Championship. The Pirates, though, didn’t have Trey Yesavage for the tournament.

This won’t be an easy Regional, as Wake Forest’s roster is deep, including three potential early-round pitchers in Josh Hartle, Michael Massey, and Chase Burns. Not to mention, the Demon Deacons also own arguably the deepest lineup in this group of four.

Predicted Winner: Wake Forest

Knoxville Regional

  1. Tennessee (#1 National)
  2. Southern Miss
  3. Indiana
  4. Northern Kentucky

You would think that the top seed in the NCAA Tournament would have an easier Regional. Sure, Tennessee, led by a deep pitching staff and sluggers Billy Amick, Christian Moore, and Blake Burke, has the pieces to move to Omaha. But, this won’t be an easy weekend for the Volunteers.

Southern Miss is back in the NCAA Tournament after a strong regular season, and it’s possible that both the Eagles and Volunteers meet almost a year after their Super Regional clash. Devin Taylor and Indiana flashed brilliance at times in 2024.

Still, the Volunteers should overcome.

Predicted Winner: Tennessee

Lexington Regional

  1. Kentucky (#2 Regional)
  2. Indiana State
  3. Illinois
  4. Western Michigan

The Kentucky Wildcats didn’t have the deepest roster on paper but an electric group highlighted by Mason Moore and Ryan Waldschmidt scratched their way up the top 25.

Kentucky’s group is strong but the same can be said for the Indiana State Sycamores. Mike Sears and Luis Hernandez each hit more than 20 home runs on the season, while Luke Hayden and Zach Davidson held things down on the mound.

The Sycamores made their mark in 2023, making it to the Super Regionals. It might not be a good idea to doubt them in 2024.

Predicted Winner: Indiana State

Norman Regional

  1. Oklahoma (#9 Regional)
  2. Duke
  3. UConn
  4. Oral Roberts

Oklahoma took home the Big 12 title in their final season in the conference and will host their first NCAA Regional in over a decade. But, the Sooners will likely have their hands full.

Oral Roberts, a 2023 College World Series participant, is back in the NCAA Tournament. As is UConn, who snuck in as the Big East’s lone at-large birth after a strong run during their conference schedule. However, the Duke Blue Devils, who have a deep offense led by Logan Bravo and AJ Gracia, have the pieces to pull off an upset in Oklahoma.

Predicted Winner: Duke

Raleigh Regional

  1. NC State (#10 Regional)
  2. South Carolina
  3. James Madison
  4. Bryant

Catchers have the chance to be the talk of the Raleigh Regional. Jacob Cozart hit 16 home runs for the Wolfpack and should be an early-round pick come July, while Cole Messina cracked 20 home runs during a standout junior season for the Gamecocks.

Messina and Ethan Petry captain a strong USC offense. But, a deep NC State team’s been a power all year long and we think they’ll get through to the next round.

Predicted Winner: NC State

Santa Barbara Regional

  1. UC Santa Barbara (#14 National)
  2. San Diego
  3. Oregon
  4. Fresno State

UC Santa Barbara shook off a slow start to look up a #1 seed in an NCAA Regional, thanks to two of the nation’s best pitchers in Tyler Bremner and Ryan Gallagher. Both Bremmer and Gallagher posted sub-3.00 ERAs and struck out 90+ batters.

San Diego had a strong season, as did Oregon. But, the Gauchos have the depth to move on.

Predicted Winner: UC Santa Barbara

Stillwater Regional

  1. Oklahoma State (#11 National)
  2. Nebraska
  3. Florida
  4. Niagara

The Stillwater Regional features arguably the biggest wild card in the 2024 NCAA Tournament: Florida. The Gators began the year in the top five but never played consistent baseball at any point this season and heavily relied on two-way sensation Jac Caglianone, both at the plate and on the mound.

Nebraska, meanwhile, will throw out one of the best starters in the nation, Brett Sears.

Oklahoma State, however, has a deep team up and down. Brian Holiday and Sam Garcia struck out 100+ batters, while Carson Benge and Nolan Schubart, two likely future first-round picks, captained the offense during the regular season. The Cowboys have the depth to move on.

Predicted Winner: Oklahoma State

Tallahassee Regional

  1. Florida State (#8 National)
  2. Alabama
  3. UCF
  4. Stetson

We noted back in our ACC preview that Florida State had a strong shot of getting back on track after a rough 2023. A strong transfer class, a dominant season from sluggers Cam Smith and James Tibbs, and a standout year from Jamie Arnold, certainly turned things around for the Seminoles.

Florida State should have their hands full with a sneaky UCF team and Alabama but the Seminoles’ power should get them to the Super Regionals.

Predicted Winner: Florida State

Tucson Regional

  1. Arizona (#13 National)
  2. Dallas Baptist
  3. West Virginia
  4. Grand Canyon

We finish our 2024 NCAA Regionals predictions with the Tucson Regional, a group where virtually every team could move to the Super Regional.

Connor Mattison and Grand Canyon snuck in after losing out on the WAC, as champion Tarleton State was ineligible. West Virginia will bring JJ Wetherholt to Arizona, while college fans will get a good look at Grant Jay, Ryan Johnson, and a Dallas Baptist team that finished 15th in the nation in home runs (111).

Upsets can happen in the NCAA Tournament. We like the Patriots to pull one off.

Predicted Winner: Dallas Baptist
