New to MLB The Show 25 is Weekend Classic, a competitive 1v1 game mode in Diamond Dynasty. This event works similar to Ultimate Team Champions (aka Weekend League) in EA Sports games, as players can enter with their Diamond Dynasty teams to earn premium rewards. Here’s what you need to know about it, including the format, qualification, and rewards.

Format

The Weekend Classic is, per Sony San Diego, a time-limited multiplayer mode that runs in conjunction with Ranked Seasons. Rules for Weekend Classic games are exactly the same compared to Ranked Seasons, meaning these games will be contested as nine-inning affairs.

Weekend Classic is only available in 1v1 action. No co-op is part of the event.

Sony San Diego stated that these games will be played with rank on the line. This means that one can still raise their Ranked Seasons rating during the event. However, the league — which determines matchups and rewards — will be fixed.

When is it normally held?

Per Sony, the Weekend Classic will be held after the end of every Ranked Season. The first one will start on April 12, 2025.

However, Sony stated that additional Weekend Classic events may be held at other points throughout the year, aside from the end of Ranked Season, which typically reset every three to four weeks in past games.

How long will it be?

Most events will take place for around 96 hours (four days). However, Sony stated some could be shorter but no short as 48 hours.

How can I qualify for Weekend Classic?

Diamond Dynasty players can qualify by logging into the active Ranked Season. Any player from Rank 0+ can play in Weekend Classic.

How many games can be played?

As many as one desires.

It’s worth noting two things. One, it will have leaderboards. Individuals will be paired with 99 random players from their specific league in a 100-player leaderboard. The top players in each leaderboard will get a specific reward.

Second, any game won within their first six contests played during a Weekend Classic will yield better rewards. More on rewards in a minute.

What determines the ranking?

The highest-attained rating during the current Ranked Season determines the ranking.

So, if for example, one makes it to World Series and caps out at 800-899, that player would stick in that specific division. This is regardless of what one’s rating is when the Weekend Classic begins.

Leagues & rewards

The rewards earned are based on the league in which Diamond Dynasty players are qualified.

First off, here’s a look at how league seeding works:

  • Bronze I: 0-399
  • Bronze II: 400-499
  • Silver I: 500-599
  • Silver II: 600-699
  • Gold I: 700-799
  • Gold II: 800-899
  • Diamond: 900-999
  • Immortal: 1000-9999

Now, as noted earlier, the rewards for winning games within the first six games of every Weekend Classic will be better compared to ones earned in games seven and beyond.
