We’re winding down the 2026 Minor League Baseball season. Two of the four full-season levels saw their seasons end this past week, while Double-A isn’t too far behind. Here are some notes on what went down, and what’s ahead.
A-ball regular season is done
That’s it for the vast majority of teams in High-A and Low-A, as the regular season for both leagues concluded on September 6. Now, the playoffs begin.
The 2026 Division Series for all Low-A teams start on the 8th. In the Florida State League, Clearwater (Phillies) will face Tampa (Yankees), and Daytona (Reds) will take on Jupiter (Marlins). For the Carolina League, Fredericksburg (Nationals) will face Fayetteville (Astros), and Charleston (Rays) will take on Hickory (Rangers). Lastly, Stockton (Athletics) faces San Jose (Giants), while Ontario (Dodgers) faces Lake Elsinore (Padres).
Up in High-A, the Northwest League Final will take place this week. The Eugene Emeralds (Giants) will face the Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays). Dasan Hill, acquired at the deadline from the Twins, is scheduled to start in Game 1 for Vancouver.
In the South Atlantic League, Frederick (Orioles) will face Greensboro (Pirates), while Bowling Green (Rays) faces Winston-Salem (White Sox). Lastly, the two Midwest League matchups are South Bend (Cubs)/Quad Cities (Royals) and Dayton (Reds/Great Lakes (Dodgers).
First-round picks end 2026 on high notes
The Orioles’ top pick in 2026, Eric Booth Jr., had himself a strong final week with Low-A Delmarva. Booth Jr. finished his last week with 11 hits and three stolen bases over six games.
While Booth Jr. only had three extra-base hits over 18 games with the Shorebirds, he wound up finishing with a .390 on-base percentage.
Drew Burress‘ 2026 season isn’t technically over, as the Athletics‘ 2026 first-rounder is on the playoff-bound Stockton Ports. But he ended the regular season on the right end, as he finished tied for first in the California League alongside Ace Reese, the Mariners‘ first-rounder, and four others for the most hits in the circuit (9) this past week.
Burress finished the regular season with a slash line of .291/.431/.591 with seven home runs and 16 extra-base hits over 28 games.
Volpe rebounds in Scranton
At this point, not a lot is guaranteed for Anthony Volpe. But if he is to get another chance at the MLB level with the Yankees, or any other team next season, a strong showing in Triple-A would help. This past week, Volpe did just that.
The former MLB Gold Glove winner had 11 hits, three of which were home runs, for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Over the last month, Volpe slashed .302/.407/.667 with nine home runs.
Taylor roaring in Las Vegas
While football fans wait for an Indiana Hoosier to get his chance in the NFL, another is hitting very well with the Athletics’ Triple-A club in Las Vegas.
That would be Devin Taylor, who had 11 hits, two of which were home runs, in his first six games with the Aviators. It’s been an astoundingly good year for Taylor, a first-round talent who slid down to the second round last year. Overall, Taylor slashed .316/.419/.503 with 22 home runs and 50 extra-base hits over 131 contests.

- INF Wyatt Sanford (A+ – PIT): nine hits, four home runs over five games
- INF Angel Cepeda (A+ – CHC): 10 hits, two home runs over five games
- OF David Calabrese (A+ – TOR): 14 hits, two home runs over six games
- INF Alexander Albertus (A – CHW): 13 hits, nine RBI over five games
- INF Owen Henne (A – STL): seven hits, three home runs over five games
- INF Joswa Lugo (A – LAA): nine hits, one home run over six games
