The ninth week of the 2024 NCAA college baseball season is in the books, one that featured some twists and turns. Arkansas dropped their first SEC series of the year to Alabama, while Clemson lost two of three to NC State. Those series losses led to some changes in the post-Week 9 coaches’ college baseball poll, including a new team in the #1 spot.

There’s a new #1 in college baseball yet again, as the Texas A&M Aggies moved into the top spot after a dominant sweep of Vanderbilt. A&M took down the Commodores by a combined score of 24-0 in the first two games, then finished off Vanderbilt with a 12-6 victory on April 14.
It’s been a complete year for the Aggies to this point. Texas A&M owns the nation’s second-best team ERA (3.14), behind only SEC rival Arkansas. Offensively, Jace Laviolette and Braden Montgomery have been among the nation’s best bats.
Both have at least 100 total bases to their name, and Montgomery (122) — a likely 2024 MLB first-round pick — is third in the country behind Travis Bazzana (126) and Charlie Condon (152).
Among the new teams in the top 25 are West Virginia and Indiana State. The Mountaineers have only gone 11-9 in conference play but have been better in Big 12 (11-4) play. A case in point was this past weekend when West Virginia swept UCF in Morgantown.
Infielder JJ Wetherholt, who missed over a month of the 2024 campaign, accrued four hits and two home runs this past weekend.
Meanwhile, the Sycamores are at yet again. Indiana State, who made it to the Super Regional in 2023, are 27-7 on the season and are coming off a sweep of Bradley.
Four schools, Florida, UCF, Nebraska, and Mississippi State, all dropped out of the top 25. The Gators dropped a weekend series to South Carolina and fell to 7-8 in conference play.
