George Lombard Jr. will be back in big league camp for the Yankees yet again. Lombard Jr. was one of the headlining prospects who will be non-roster players for New York in 2026 Spring Training. Other notables include pitching prospects Carlos Lagrange and Ben Hess.

The prospects

The marquee name is George Lombard Jr., arguably the best prospect in the Yankees system at the moment. Last season, Lombard Jr. slashed .235/.367/.381 with nine home runs and 46 extra-base hits over 132 games.

A steady shortstop with speed, Lombard Jr.’s offensive game has begun to round into form. He hit for more power in 2025, and Lombard Jr. has a disciplined approach at the plate. The 20-year-old walked 87 times last season.

Then, there are the pitchers. We’ll start with Carlos Lagrange, one of the best swing-and-miss pitchers in the system. Last season across two levels, Lagrange struck out 168 over 120 innings pitched and posted a 36% Whiff% with Double-A Somerset last season, one of the best in the Eastern League last season.

Lagrange has some of the best velocity in the farm system. The right-hander boasts a fastball that will flirt with 102-103 MPH, and he’ll pair with a low-90s changeup, as well as a vicious slider with downer action.

Ben Hess, the Yankees’ first-round pick from 2024, will be in camp a little less than two years after he was drafted. Hess missed some time in 2025 but pitched well overall, as he was missing bats and struck out 139 over 103 innings. He finished 2025 with Double-A Somerset.

Brendan Beck was drafted five years ago by the Yankees but is close. Beck posted a 1.82 ERA with Double-A Somerset but was hit around in Triple-A. The right-hander isn’t a hard-thrower by any means but is more of a control & finesse pitcher.

Kyle Carr, a four-pitch pitcher, posted a sub-2.00 ERA last season for High-A Hudson Valley.

Harrison Cohen (low-to-mid-90s fastball, changeup, cutter, slider) will be in camp after he struck out 59 over 51 between Double-A and Triple-A last season. Cohen, who will be on Team Israel this March, had a Whiff% over 32% in Double-A this past season.

Other notables

Former Giants outfielder Marco Luciano, a formidable power hitter but one with significant swing-and-miss, will be in the Yankees camp this coming spring. He’ll be joined by infielder Braden Shewmake and speedster Duke Ellis.

Catchers Abraham Gutierrez and Miguel Palma, as well as pitchers Michael Arias and Yovanny Cruz, round out the group.

Seth Brown, Paul DeJong, Adam Kloffenstein, Zach Short, Jonathan Ornelas, Kenedy Corona, Ernesto Martinez Jr., Ali Sanchez, Payton Henry, Drake Fellows, Travis MacGregor, Alexander Cornielle, Dylan Coleman, and Carson Coleman will previously named to the roster.
