The Brewers won the NL Central for the second time in three seasons in 2023 in what was a wild season for the division. Milwaukee’s pitching delivered yet again in 2023. However, that staff will look quite different for the 2024 campaign. Here’s our Brewers offseason recap for 2023-24.

Notable Additions
- 1B/OF Jake Bauers
- C Eric Haase
- SP DL Hall
- 1B Rhys Hoskins
- SP/RP Jakob Junis
- INF Joey Ortiz
- SP Joe Ross
- C Gary Sanchez
The big acquisition of the offseason for the Brewers was Rhys Hoskins. Hoskins’ power and ability to get on base made him one of the game’s most prolific offensive threats at first base. The veteran, though, tore his left ACL in the spring of 2023 and missed all of 2024.
The injury likely cost Hoskins the chance to cash in on a strong resume in the short term. But for the Brewers, Hoskins could be the team’s much-needed answer at first.
Aside from Hoskins, Milwaukee added more pop with Gary Sanchez. And, the Brewers also added two young, projectable players in DL Hall and Joey Ortiz. Those two, though, came at a price.
Now, here’s a look at the subtractions part of our Brewers offseason recap.
Notable Subtractions
- SP Corbin Burnes
- C Victor Caratini
- OF Mark Canha
- RP Andrew Chafin
- SP Adrian Houser
- 1B Carlos Santana
- OF Tyrone Taylor
- 1B Rowdy Tellez
- OF Jesse Winker
It’s fair to argue that Corbin Burnes was one of the best, if not the best, starters in the game from 2021-23. Burnes, though, won’t be back for 2024.
The 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner, who’s a year away from free agency, was traded to the Orioles in early February.
But Burnes wasn’t the only big piece lost. Milwaukee traded away Mark Canha to clear salary and opted not to retain Carlos Santana. Those two played a key role in the Brewers’ run to the NL Central title last season.
Milwaukee also traded innings eater Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the Mets. And after an injury-riddled campaign, Jesse Winker went to free agency and signed a Minor League deal with the Nationals.
What to Expect in 2024
The 2024 campaign will be a very interesting one for the Brewers.
Milwaukee’s rotation will look significantly different, thanks to the departure of Burnes and no Brandon Woodruff for 2024. While Milwaukee does have several young, talented arms in the wings, the weight of the rotation will be on Freddy Peralta and Wade Miley.
The lineup, on the other hand, could actually be better. The addition of Rhys Hoskins gives Milwaukee the kind of impact bat that was missing last season. And, star prospect Jackson Chourio could make an immediate impact in Milwaukee.
While the Brewers may not be the favorite to win the NL Central in 2024, there’s still talent on this team — and a lot of it.
