Several critical series started on July 25. The Blue Jays will try to keep their dimming playoff hopes alive in Boston, while the Mariners & Rangers fight for possession of first in the AL West. And in Philadelphia, the Yankees and Phillies had quite the game on the 24th.
Schlittler outduels Luzardo
Only seven hits were allowed by the Yankees and Phillies’ pitching staffs combined. A Paul Goldschmidt solo shot was the only run scored in a 1-0 Yankees victory on July 24.
Jesús Luzardo struck out nine over seven strong innings. Cam Schlittler, though, outdueled him, as the righty struck out 12 over 7.1 scoreless innings.
It was Schlittler’s 10th win of 2026. He lowered his ERA to 2.07.
Red Sox get back in win column
The Red Sox have a shot at starting a new win streak on July 25, as Boston picked up a victory over the Blue Jays on the 24th.
Boston was able to hang on despite a late-inning blow-up by Greg Weissert, who gave up a three-run shot to Kazuma Okamoto in the seventh. That home run, by the way, gave Okamoto 23 home runs on the season. He is now the all-time MLB home run leader for Japanese-born rookies.
Anthony Seigler had four hits, one of which was his third home run of 2026, a solo shot off Trey Yesavage. Ceddanne Rafaela hit his 10th home run of the year.
Sugano wins 10th game
On the day the Brewers held their alumni game, it was the Rockies who won in Milwaukee, 5-2, before the event.
The Brewers were able to hit two solo shots, one from Christian Yelich and the other from Brice Turang, off pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano. But that was all Sugano gave up, as he struck out five over 5.1 IP to pick up his 10th win of 2026.
Kyle Karros and TJ Rumfield each had two hits.
Rays win 60th game
The Rays roughed up Joey Cantillo and put up 11 runs on Cleveland, as Tampa Bay took an 11-3 victory.
Ryan Vilade and Richie Palacios hit home runs for the Rays, while Shane McClanahan struck out three over five. McClanahan now has nine wins on the season.
Rangers pick up critical win
The Mariners and Rangers will battle it out in Arlington for control of first in the AL West. Texas drew the first win, as the Rangers defeated Seattle 5-4.
Nicky Lopez drove in the game-winning run on a sac bunt during the sixth inning. But before then, Wyatt Langford and Jake Burger each hit home runs. Elias Diaz and Brandon Nimmo each had two-hit games.
