With Shohei Ohtani now in the National League, it’s guaranteed that a new AL MVP will be crowned in 2024. But, will a first-time AL MVP be crowned in 2024? Given how a certain slugger from The Bronx has performed this season, that may not be the case. With the 2024 MLB season nearing its end, look at our power rankings for the 2024 AL MVP, plus odds and other information.

Updated as of September 3, 2024. Odds as of September 3, 2024.

Odds

Here’s a look at 2024 AL MVP odds, courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook (as of September 3):

Aaron Judge has jumped considerably since the end of May. The Yankees slugger is now -5000 to win the award, up significantly from the +400 he was at on May 24.

Power rankings

Here’s a look at our September power rankings for the 2024 AL MVP:

  1. Aaron Judge
  2. Bobby Witt Jr.
  3. Juan Soto
  4. Gunnar Henderson
  5. Jose Ramirez

Aaron Judge is the king of baseball once more, as the Yankees slugger all of MLB in bWAR (9.3) as of September 3. That’s just one of several categories Judge leads in, as he’s also first in the Majors in home runs (51), RBI (124), and total bases (345). He may not break his own AL home run record of 62 this season but it’s certainly been a Judge-ian (hat tip to John Sterling) campaign.

With how Judge has performed in 2024, it will mean several others who deserve serious consideration won’t get it. Bobby Witt Jr. is first in the Majors in batting average (.338) and third in slugging (.611). Right now, the Royals shortstop is the only person standing in Judge’s path to the Triple Crown. The last player to earn the Triple Crown was Miguel Cabrera in 2012.

Gunnar Henderson, Jose Ramirez, and Juan Soto also have had sensational seasons. Ramirez entered play on the 3rd with 34 home runs, and over 100 runs scored and RBI. Judge’s teammate Juan Soto has 37 home runs and an OPS over 1.000.

When is the AL MVP winner announced?

The AL MVP Award winner is traditionally revealed in November, after the conclusion of the postseason.

Why can’t I bet on the AL MVP?

Some states do not allow betting on awards-based props. New York is one such state.
