Shohei Ohtani was at +330 to win the NL MVP as of May. He’s now a -2500 favorite to win the award for the first time after Ohtani won two AL MVPs.
Power rankings

The lead contenders for the award last year are nowhere to be found in the 2024 race. Ronald Acuna Jr. suffered a season-ending injury early this season, while Mookie Betts missed significant time and only played in 92 of the Dodgers’ first 138 games. Matt Olson‘s had a down year.
Much like in the American League, this race is just about complete. Shohei Ohtani became the fastest player to reach the 40-40 marker in a single season and he could be the first to ever hit 50-50. It turns out we haven’t seen it all from the two-way sensation, who hasn’t thrown a pitch this season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
The one real candidate aside from Ohtani is Francisco Lindor. Lindor needs five stolen bases to reach the 30-30 marker for the second straight season. The Mets shortstop’s been a dominant force for the Amazins’, who look to make it back to the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.
When is the NL MVP winner announced?
The NL MVP Award winner is traditionally revealed after the conclusion of the postseason. That will likely come in November, although no official date for the reveal has been confirmed yet.
Why can’t I bet on the NL MVP?
Some states do not allow betting on awards-based props. New York is one such state.
