The 2023 NL MVP race was a wild one, as Mookie Betts, Ronald Acuna Jr., Freddie Freeman, and Matt Olson made significant pushes for the award. But what about 2024? Here’s what you should know about the 2024 NL MVP race, including odds and our power rankings.

Here’s a look at 2024 NL MVP odds, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook (as of April 21):

Mookie Betts has jumped up in the odds race, as he sat at +450 as of April 3. Betts led all players in total bWAR (2.3) as of April 21.

Power rankings

Here’s a look at our April power rankings for the 2024 NL MVP:

  1. Mookie Betts
  2. Elly De La Cruz
  3. Ketel Marte
  4. CJ Abrams
  5. Shohei Ohtani

Betts remains the frontrunner, thanks to a fantastic start that saw the now-shortstop hit .356 with three home runs and post a 1.113 OPS over his first 23 games.

However, some surprising names also made the list.

Elly De La Cruz has electrified to start 2024, as the Reds shortstop entered play on April 21 in the top ten in home runs (6) and first in stolen bases.

Speaking of shortstops, CJ Abrams hit six home runs over his first 17 games of 2024. The Nationals infielder had 18 in all of 2023.

The NL MVP Award winner is traditionally revealed after the conclusion of the postseason.

Why can’t I bet on the NL MVP?
