We’re down to just two weeks before the 2024 MLB and fantasy seasons are complete. It doesn’t need to be said but time is running out. So, which pitchers should you consider targeting on the waiver wire for Week 24 of the 2024 fantasy baseball season? Well, those who have innings deficits should look at names who line up to pitch twice this week.
Best pitchers to target for Week 24 of 2024 Fantasy Baseball
Here’s a look at the best waiver wire targets for Week 24 of the 2024 fantasy baseball season, based on availability (>= 50% availability in Yahoo! leagues):
- Shane Baz (SP)
- Jake Irvin (SP)
- Kumar Rocker (SP)
- Albert Suarez (SP)
- Jordan Wicks (SP)
For those in need of making up innings in roto leagues or those who want two-start options in H2H, this list should be of help. We’ll start with Shane Baz.
Baz will get the Red Sox on September 17 and will likely face the Blue Jays to cap off the week. Facing the Red Sox makes Baz a particularly appealing option since Boston has the fourth-worst team Whiff% (27.9%) in the league. Now, Baz hasn’t missed as many bats this season, at least compared to what he did in 2022. His Whiff% is down seven points compared to 2022, although his power stuff still looks good. He’s still pumping mid-90s fastballs at hitters.
Wicks, meanwhile, will face the A’s and Nationals this week. The Cubs lefty got racked up in his last start, one in which he gave up seven runs against a powerhouse Dodgers lineup. While the A’s and Nationals aren’t pushovers, both of Wicks’ starts will be at the friendly confines. And while his Whiff% isn’t high, Wicks is getting batters to chase, as indicated by his 31.2% Chase%.
Kumar Rocker was electric in his MLB debut. How electric? How about seven strikeouts over four innings and a ridiculous 61.9% Whiff% rate off his plus slider. He’ll face the Blue Jays this week at home and while Rocker will be under a pitch limit, players in need of strikeouts should consider the 24-year-old rookie.
Two other options are Jake Irvin and Albert Suarez. Irvin will face the Mets on September 16, a team he dominated two months ago. The 27-year-old righty struck out eight over eight scoreless frames on July 4 against New York. After his start against the Mets, he’ll lineup to face the Cubs later this week.
Albert Suarez, who owns a strong 3.39 ERA on the season and has limited hard-hit contact this year, will get the Giants on the 17th and will likely face the Tigers this coming weekend on normal rest this weekend.
Other considerations
- Spencer Arrighetti (SP)
- Merrill Kelly (SP)
The Astros’ new six-man rotation has worked out so far, as Houston won four of their last six dating back to September 10. Arrighetti will get the call on September 16 against the Padres and he lines up to face the Angels this coming weekend. His last outing was considerably better compared to the one he had against the Reds. Arrighetti struck out seven over 6.2 IP against the A’s on September 19.
Kelly (60% owned in Yahoo! leagues), meanwhile, will also likely get two starts this week. The D-Backs starter was on track for an easy win this past week against the Rangers but left due to muscle cramps. He’ll face the Rockies at Coors Field on September 16 but his pitch arsenal, which includes a sinker and changeup, are good weapons to have there.
