It’s the start of a new week in Major League Baseball and several notable series will kick on May 13. The Phillies will take on NL East rival New York for the first of four games on Monday, while Tampa heads to Boston to take on the Red Sox. Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for May 13 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):
- Kutter Crawford over 5.5 strikeouts (+125)
- Yordan Alvarez over 1.5 H+R+RBI (-150)
Kutter Crawford will get the Rays at home on May 13. Tampa has MLB’s sixth-worst Whiff% at 28.0%. Jose Siri and Randy Arozarena are two of the league’s worst aggressors in that category, as the Tampa outfielders both rank in the bottom 5% of the league in whiff percentage (per Statcast).
Crawford, armed with a solid cut fastball and high-carry fastball, has produced chases at a high clip this season, to the tune of 32.9% this season. And, he’s struck out six or more batters in five of his last six starts, dating back to April 10.
As for our second pick, Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez has begun to heat up at the plate. Alvarez has seven hits in his last four games, a stretch that started on May 9 when he belted a line-drive home run that came off his bat at 116.8 MPH.
Alvarez will face right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling on May 13.
