The action on May 20 gets going early on May 20, thanks to a day-night doubleheader in Atlanta between the Padres and Braves. Those two games won’t be the only highlights of the day, as the D-Backs and Dodgers will square off in LA and Francisco Lindor returns to Cleveland. So, what looks good on the betting front? Here are our best MLB bets for May 20, 2024.

Our best bets for May 20

Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for May 20 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):

If there’s one area where Reid Detmers excels, it’s strikeouts. The former first-round pick misses plenty of bats, as Detmers owns above-average Whiff% (30.6%) and Chase% (31.0%) rates. Not to mention, Detmers has five or more strikeouts in all three of his May outings.

It’s a tough matchup on the road in Houston, as the Astros have won seven of their last eight and have some fearsome right-handed hitters and two left-handed sluggers in Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker. Detmers didn’t notch a strikeout in his last outing in Houston back in August but did notch six on July 15, 2023.

As for our second pick, it’s been a slow go for Red Sox infielder/outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela. Rafaela has hit the under here in five of his last seven games, as the swing-happy hitter has a poor 40.1% Chase% rate and is only hitting .204/.232/.325 in May (58 PA).

Rafaela will face Taj Bradley on May 20, who faced the young Red Sox utilityman last week. The 23-year-old went 0-1 with a walk and no runs scored against Bradley.
