May 5 could be a tricky day for plays, given the rainy forecast across the eastern part of the United States. So for those looking for action, here’s a look at our best MLB bets for May 5, 2024.

Our best bets for May 5

Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for May 5 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):

  • Marlins/Athletics over 7.5 runs (-105)
  • Michael Busch over 0.5 H+R+RBI (-175)

Don’t expect 24 combined runs like on May 4, when the A’s put up 20 against the Marlins. However, even after a lively offensive performance in Oakland, there should be some offense on the 5th.

Joe Boyle is on the hill for the A’s. Boyle has an electric fastball and a strong Barrel% of 4.1% but his command can get him into trouble. The righty owns a 6.08 ERA and walked 20 batters over his first 26.2 IP.

Meanwhile, the Marlins will send Sixto Sanchez out to start for Miami. Sanchez’s Whiff% rate is a low 13.2%, thanks to his tendency to lean on his cutter and changing speeds.

Between a pitcher with fringe command and a pitch-to-contact hurler, there’s potential for an over hit.

For our second pick, we live Michael Busch going over 0.5 H+R+RBI. It’s a low over/under for a player like Busch, who’s hit the over here seven out of his last 10 games. However, the Cubs first baseman is facing Freddy Peralta.

Busch is hitting .281/.339/.531 against right-handed pitchers this season.

Look at May 3’s picks
