- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over 1.5 H+R+RBI (-155)
- Rafael Devers over 1.5 total bases (+110)
The Blue Jays were shut out on August 10 by the Athletics thanks to a great outing from Osvaldo Bido and the Oakland bullpen. Toronto will look for better against JP Sears, a lefty with good command (6.4% BB%) but one who doesn’t strike a lot of batters out.
The presence of a left-hander is good for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Guerrero Jr. has beat up on lefties this season, as he’s batted .342 (1.108 OPS) against pitchers from the opposite side this season. It’ll also be a test as to whether Vlad can continue his hitting streak, as Guerrero Jr. will enter the day on a 22-game hitting streak.
As for our second pick, Hunter Brown has been better of late for the Houston Astros. Brown, who’s leaned heavily on a sinker this season, was lights out in June and pitched well in his lone August start. The right-hander struck out four over six and gave up just one run against the Rangers on August 5.
However, he’ll have his hands full against the Red Sox and Rafael Devers. Devers has hit over 1.5 total bases in five of eight games during August and the Red Sox third baseman crushes right-handed pitching. Devers entered play on the 11th with a .327/.413/.686 slash line against right-handed pitching.
