The first weekend of April saw a lot of rain-soaked action thanks to the stormy weather across the southeast and eastern seaboard. But by the end of it, a new #1 took over in college baseball, as the Arkansas Razorbacks passed the Tennessee Volunteers.

Here’s the post-Week 8 coaches’ poll rankings, courtesy of USA Today:

  1. Arkansas (+1)
  2. Texas (+3)
  3. LSU (+3)
  4. Tennesse (-3)
  5. Clemson (+2)
  6. Georgia (-3)
  7. Ole Miss (+3)
  8. Florida State (-4)
  9. Oregon State (+2)
  10. Alabama (-2)
  11. UCLA (+4)
  12. Auburn (+5)
  13. North Carolina (+1)
  14. Vanderbilt (+6)

  21. Troy
  22. Kansas (JUMP)
  23. West Virginia (+2)
  24. Southern Miss (-8)
  25. Coastal Carolina (-1)

It’s the first in-season poll which does not feature Tennessee at the top spot. Instead, it’s the Razorbacks, who moved to 30-3 and 11-1 in conference play after a sweep of the Missouri Tigers this past week. The Razorbacks’ won all three games with a Pecombined score of 51-9.

Arkansas has been able to win this year in a variety of different ways this season. However, what’s been a standout part of their game this year has been the offense, which has seen some notabel breakout performers. Kuhio Aloy is currently hitting .375, while FGCU transfer and draft-eligible bat Charles Davalan is batting .400 with 11 home runs on the year.

The Volunteers, meanwhile, hit their first real snag of the 2025 season this past weekend. Tennessee lost two of three to Texas A&M in Knoxville, a rematch of the 2024 College World Series final.

As for the rest of the top three, Texas moved up to #2 after a clean sweep against Georgia in Austin. However, all three games were decided by four runs or fewer, hence likely why the Bulldogs only slipped three positions. LSU pushed to #3 after sweeping the Oklahoma Sooners at home in Norman.

One team jumped into the top-25 this week: the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas, which leads the Big 12 at 9-3 during in-conference play, swept UCF in Orlando to push to #21 in the coaches’ poll.

Kansas has been playing well virtually all season, thanks to help from their big bats and their top two arms, Dominic Voegele and Cooper Moore. Sophomore Brady Ballinger is batting .408 with 12 home runs, while junior Dariel Osoria is hitting .365 for the Jayhawks.
