After a rough start this past week against the Cardinals, Aaron Nola is headed somewhere he hasn’t been in a while: the injured list. Nola was one of several players to be placed on the injured list on May 16.
Nola on IL for first time in years
Aaron Nola was placed on the injured list on May 16, a little over a week after the righty hurt his ankle during a workout in Tampa. He made two starts since then but didn’t pitch well, including this past Wednesday when Nola gave up a career-high 12 hits.
It’s the first time Nola, who’s thrown 180+ innings every full season since 2018, has been on the injured list since 2017.
As noted earlier on May 16, pitching prospect Mick Abel will make his MLB debut on May 18.
Updates on Twins’ injuries
On May 15, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa left the Twins’ game against the Orioles after colliding with one another. The two were subsequently placed on the concussion protocol.
Buxton is still in protocol but Carlos Correa was placed on the 7-day IL on the 16th. Infielder Ryan Fitzgerald was selected to replace Correa, while Michael Tonkin was transferred to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man spot.
Meanwhile, Willi Castro left the Twins’ game on May 16 after fouling a ball off his right knee.
Rehab assignments
Ronald Acuna Jr. went 0-2 with two walks in Triple-A on May 16. He played six innings.
Rhett Lowder did not pitch on May 16, even though he was assigned to Louisville (AAA) to pitch. The Bats’ game in Indianapolis was postponed. He’s now scheduled to pitch on the 17th.
Other injury news
The Diamondbacks placed Eduardo Rodriguez on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation.
Cole Ragans left the Royals’ game on May 16 in the sixth inning with left groin soreness.
Jonathan Loaisiga was activated on May 16 for his 2025 MLB season debut.
The Rockies activated Tyler Freeman, Aaron Schunk, and Ezequiel Tovar from the 10-day IL.
