The latest injury news hit the Diamondbacks hard, as Ketel Marte will be out for the immediate future thanks to a hamstring strain. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, will hold their breath after George Springer, off to a hot start, was pulled from Toronto’s game on April 5.

Marte hit IL

One day after Ketel Marte left the Diamondbacks’ game on April 4 thanks to a hamstring strain, Ketel Marte was officially placed on the IL.

Arizona recalled infielder Tim Tawa, who hit very well in Reno before his promotion to the Diamondbacks. Tawa reached base three times in his first MLB game on April 5.

Springer leaves game

The Blue Jays saw outfielder George Springer exit their game on April 5 against the Mets. Springer hit the right field wall in Citi Field trying to get to a fly ball hit by Jesse Winker, which ultimately turned into a triple.

Rehab assignments

Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt made his first outing of 2025 in Somerset (AA), as he comes back from right rotator cuff tendinitis. Schmidt struck out seven batters over 3.1 IP. He threw 52 pitches against the Yard Goats.

Meanwhile, in Frisco, two Major Leaguers were on rehab assignments. One was Lance McCullers Jr., with Corpus Christi. The other was Josh Jung, who was recovering from a neck injury. Jung headed to Frisco after he took ground balls before the Rays/Rangers game on April 4.

Jung didn’t play the field on April 5, starting at DH. The Rangers third baseman went 1-3 in his first three at-bats.

As for McCullers Jr., the Astros hurler didn’t perform as well as his outing on March 30 with Sugar Land (AAA). McCullers Jr. surrendered four hits, including a home run, and three walks over 1.2 IP (50 pitches) with the Hooks. He only struck out one.
