It’s the end of the first full week of the 2025 MLB regular season, The final day saw numerous players hi the IL, including left-handers Nestor Cortes and Blake Snell. However, the day also marked the return of former All-Star catcher Sean Murphy, as he returns from a rib injury.

Pair of lefties hit IL

The Dodgers won’t have left-hander Blake Snell for his regularly-scheduled start this week against the Nationals. Los Angeles placed Snell on the IL with left shoulder inflammation. Matt Sauer was recalled by Oklahoma City (AAA).

The 32-year-old gave up five runs, all unearned, on April 2 against the Braves.

Additionally, Nestor Cortes is on the IL with a left elbow flexor strain. However, Cortes said he’s not concerned too much with the injury. The left-hander pitched beautifully just three days, as he threw six scoreless innings against the Reds on April 3.

Left-hander Grant Wolfram was recalled from Nashville (AAA).

Holderman on IL

The Pirates are down Colin Holderman for the interim. Holderman hit the injured list with a right knee sprain. Pittsburgh recalled and activated Chase Shutgart.

Holderman has dealt with a rough start to 2025, as the right-hander surrendered six hits and five earned runs over 4.2 IP.

Other news

The Braves decided to wait until Tuesday to activate Sean Murphy. Murphy was activated on April 6 after Atlanta was postponed. In a corresponding move. Atlanta DFA’d Chadwick Tromp, meaning Drake Baldwin stays on the active roster.

Baldwin made Atlanta’s roster thanks to a strong spring and the fact Murphy was out with a rib injury

Brooks Lee is now on a rehab assignment, as the Twins assigned him to Fort Myers (A). He went 0-3 in his first action back.

Austin Gomber played with the Isotopes as part of his rehab assignment on the 6th. Gomber struck out five over four innings and conceded two runs. It’ll be interesting to see how Gomber slots in the Rockies’ rotation, with Chase Dollander up with Colorado.
