With a limited slate of games on May 19, there wasn’t too much injury news on the day. However, several notable All-Stars were activated, as Teoscar Hernandez and Spencer Strider are ready to go. However, the Tigers lost a key piece to their rotation.

Olson placed on IL

The Tigers placed right-hander Reese Olson on the injured list on May 19. It’s retroactive to May 18.

Olson was sidelined with right ring finger inflammation. The young righty was pitching well, as Olson struck out 51 over his first 48.2 IP of the year.

Pain lingers for Alvarez

Astros OF/DH Yordan Alvarez said on May 19 he still has pain in his right hand, even though the pain has gotten significantly better. However, he remains on the injured list and isn’t close to returning, as Alvarez has yet to swing at 100% efficiency.

Alvarez has been dealing with pain in his hand for most of the season. However, he wasn’t placed on the injured list on May 5, retroactive to May 3.

Strider returns

For the second time this season, Spencer Strider was activated from the injured list. Strider was placed on the injured list in late April with a hamstring injury, after he sustained it while playing catch.

Strider will take the place of Bryce Elder in the Braves rotation & start on May 20 against the Nationals.

Other injury news

While Double-A wasn’t in action today, the Guardians assigned C/INF/OF David Fry to Akron (AA) as he recovers from a right UCL revision.

Teoscar Hernandez (Dodgers), Sam Bachman (Angels), and Casey Schmitt (Giants) were activated from the injured list.

Chandler Simpson missed the game on May 18 with a hand injury and didn’t start on the 19th. However, he came into the game to pinch run and took one plate appearance. He stole two bases.

Mike Trout is jogging on the field as he continues his rehab from a knee injury.
