Several playoff-bound teams received scares on September 27, the penultimate day of the 2025 MLB regular season. Jazz Chisholm Jr. had to exit the Yankees’ game against the Orioles after a hit by pitch. Meanwhile, in Chicago, the Cubs will be without a star rookie pitcher for at least the Wild Card round.

Baty placed on IL

Mets third baseman Brett Baty was placed on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain.

As noted on the 26th, Baty left the Mets’ game on September 26 in the second inning. Baty aggravated his side during an at-bat and grimaced coming off the field in the first after a throw to first base.

Per the team, Baty will undergo an MRI to get more information on the strain.

Chisholm Jr. fine after HBP

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had to leave the game on September 27 after he was hit by a pitch on his left forearm.

The Yankees confirmed that both X-rays and a CT scan came back negative.

Horton out for Wild Card round

The Cubs placed pitcher Cade Horton on the 15-day IL with a right rib fracture. It’s a retroactive placement

Chicago believed that Horton, who left his start on the 23rd as a precaution, was going to be available next week. Manager Craig Counsell stated that his MRI showed some concern but was, nonetheless, on track.

Since Horton’s IL placement is retroactive to the 24th, he must miss the entire Wild Card round and most of the NLDS.

Other injury news

Padres outfielder Ramon Laureano was officially placed on the IL with a right index finger fracture. He will be unavailable for the Wild Card round series against the Cubs.

The Astros placed Jake Meyers on the 10-day IL with right calf soreness.

Luis Garcia (Angels) was also placed on the 15-day IL.

Lance McCullers Jr. (Astros) and Logan Evans (Mariners) were activated off the IL.
