It was a bullpen day for the Milwaukee Brewers on August 26, although that certainly wasn’t the plan. The Dodgers, meanwhile, also had to dip into the bullpen early on the day after Roki Sasaki left due to a finger injury.
Injuries in Queens
Brewers pitcher Dustin May lasted one pitch in his start against the Mets. May took an A.J. Ewing line drive off his shoulder, and while the right-hander stayed on the field for several minutes afterwards, he was ultimately removed.
Officially, May was diagnosed with a shoulder contusion. X-rays came back negative.
Bo Bichette, meanwhile, left with a left foot contusion. Bichette suffered the injury after fouling a ball off his foot.
Sasaki departs early
Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki left in the fourth inning in his start against the Braves due to a middle finger blister.
After the game, manager Dave Roberts indicated that Sasaki is likely going on the injured list.
IL moves
The Orioles placed outfielder Tyler O’Neill on the 10-day IL with right shoulder inflammation.
Angels outfielder Gustavo Campero was placed on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.
Yankees reliever Fernando Cruz was placed on the 15-day IL with right elbow discomfort.
Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement.
Giants pitcher Adrian Houser was placed on the injured list with a right forearm strain.
Kervin Castro (Yankees) and Carson Whisenhunt (Giants) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
The Red Sox’s trio of rehabbers were in Triple-A Worcester once more. Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 0-for-2 with two walks, Roman Anthony went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, and Trevor Story went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
Mets 1B/3B Mark Vientos went 2-for-4 with a home run for Triple-A Syracuse.
Orioles INF/OF Blaze Alexander went 2-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts for Triple-A Norfolk.
Royals pitcher Tony Gonsolin struck out four over three scoreless innings (40 pitches) for Triple-A Omaha. Gonsolin averaged 92 MPH and topped out at 93 MPH.
Nationals pitcher DJ Herz struck out two and walked two over two scoreless innings (41 pitches) for Triple-A Rochester. Herz averaged 92 MPH and topped out at 94 MPH.
Other notes
Dodgers TWP Shohei Ohtani will throw a bullpen session on August 28, and if all goes well, could start on the 30th against the Tigers.
Mets outfielder Juan Soto is still working on his hitting and running progression, per manager Andy Green.
Byron Buxton (hip), Jake Bauers (foot), Adley Rutschman (elbow), and Chase DeLauter (hamstring) were all out of their teams’ respective lineups.
