The Marlins’ rotation lost a key piece for the rest of 2025, as Max Meyer — who struggled in May & June — will need season-ending surgery. It’s one of several injury notes on June 24, which also includes updates on Garrett Mitchell & Bryce Harper.
Meyer done for 2025
The 2025 season has officially ended for Max Meyer.
Meyer will need season-ending hip surgery. It’s to repair the labrum in his left hip.
The Marlins pitcher started off strong in 2025, as he struck out 47 over his first 34 innings. Unfortunately, Meyer got shelled in May; the 26-year-old gave up six home runs and 32 hits over 25.2 IP in May.
Mitchell needs shoulder surgery
Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell was working his way back from an oblique injury. Now, he’ll need to work back from a different injury.
Per the team, Mitchell dislodged anchors placed in his left shoulder two years ago and has been recommended to get surgery on it. He’ll get a second opinion on it before undergoing the procedure.
Harper inching closer
Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper hit off a tee on June 24 and is expected to hit indoors on the 25th. Manager Rob Thompson stated Harper is moving in the right direction towards being activated off the injured list.
However, Harper is not expected to be removed by the end of the Phillies’ series against the Astros.
Other injury news
As expected, Corbin Carroll was placed on the 10-day IL. Carroll suffered a chip fracture in his wrist after a hit by pitch last week. Additionally, Eugenio Suarez is day-to-day after he was hit by a pitch.
Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz was placed on the 10-day IL with a head contusion. As noted yesterday, Ruiz was hit in the head by a foul ball in the Nationals’ dugout.
Frankie Montas (Mets) and Porter Hodge (Cubs) were activated off the injured list.
