Several teams competing for a playoff spot made notable IL-related moves on September 5. Kyle Finnegan, who’s yet to give a up a run as a Tiger, was placed on the IL with an adductor strain. Meanwhile, Nestor Cortes and Adolis Garcia are back on the injured list.

Cortes back on IL

The Padres placed Nestor Cortes on the 15-day IL with left biceps tendinitis. It’s retroactive to September 4.

Manager Mike Shildt stated that Cortes has been “ouchy” throughout this season. But, moreso recently, hence the IL placement.

Cortes joins fellow ex-Yankee Michael King on the injured list. However, the latter could soon return, as King recently threw five innings at the team’s facility in Arizona.

Finnegan lands on injured list

Detroit placed reliever Kyle Finnegan on the 15-day IL with a right adductor strain.

Finnegan warmed up in Detroit’s game on September 3 but came up injured and did not pitch against the Mets. The reliever stated that he was tight before the game but never loosened up.

He’s optimistic he can return once his IL stints ends. The move is retroactive to September 1.

Garcia on IL again

Texas placed Adolis Garcia on the 10-day IL with a right quad strain, retroactive to September 2.

Garcia was on the IL last month, as he missed nearly two weeks with an ankle sprain.

Rehab assignments

Mets outfielder Jose Siri went 1-3 for Syracuse (AAA). He played the entire game.

Cubs pitcher Ryan Brasier gave up two hits and one run for Iowa (AAA).

Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers went 0-3 with a walk for Jacksonville (AAA).

Other injury news

Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow (back tightness) was scratched from his start against the Orioles. Additionally, catcher Dalton Rushing was removed with a leg contusion.

The Brewers placed Nick Mears (back tightness) on the 15-day IL.

Astros reliever Kaleb Ort was placed on the IL with right elbow inflammation.

Marlins infielder Connor Norby was placed on the 10-day IL with a quad strain, while Derek Hill landed on the IL with a right hamstring strain.

Jon Gray (thoracic outlet) and Pavin Smith (quad) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Francisco Alvarez (Mets), Yohel Pozo (Cardinals), Tyler Stephenson (Reds), Dan Altavilla (White Sox), Austin Slater (Yankees), Parker Meadows (Tigers), and Pablo Lopez (Twins) were activated off the injured list.
