It’s been a tough go this season for Royce Lewis, the oft-injured slugger who’s never played more than 82 games in a season. Lewis will be placed on the injured list by the Twins after the third baseman suffered a hamstring injury in Houston. It’s one of several injury notes for June 14, 2025.
Lewis returns to IL
Royce Lewis is headed back to the IL — again.
The Twins are planning to add him to the list with a mild hamstring strain. He suffered it during Minnesota’s game against the Astros on June 13.
It’s the second time Lewis will land on the IL with a hamstring strain. The former first-overall pick missed the first month of the 2025 season as he hurt his left hamstring in Grapefruit League action. He played six games with St. Paul (AAA) between April & May before his season debut.
Since the start of 2024, this will be his fourth stint on the injured list.
Melton lands on injured list
A notable rookie landed on the injured list, as Astros outfielder Jacob Melton will be out for a bit.
Melton suffered a sprained right ankle on June 14. The rookie is now in a walking boot and will go for further testing, per the team.
It’s been an interesting few days (and weeks) for the Astros, as far as injuries are concerned. Houston’s without OF/DH Yordan Alvarez and their home run leader, Isaac Paredes, hasn’t played since June 12.
The Astros believe Paredes, dealing with a hamstring issue, will avoid the IL.
Sheehan ready to come back
The Dodgers are getting reinforcements for their rotation.
Los Angeles plans to activate Emmet Sheehan, who’s been rehabbing in the Minors this season during his Tommy John surgery, from the 60-day IL next week. However, an upcoming bullpen session will decide when exactly he’ll get activated.
The Dodgers have gotten creative with their rotation amidst a rash of injuries. Ben Casparius, who’s been effective both as a long man and traditional reliever, is in the rotation for right now.
Other injury news
Yankees reliever Jake Cousins is likely headed towards undergoing Tommy John surgery, per manager Aaron Boone. Cousins, sidelined this season with a flexor strain, is now dealing with a UCL issue.
The Nationals placed reliever Andrew Chafin on the 15-day IL with a right hamstring strain.
Orioles catcher Gary Sanchez was activated from the injured list.
