Between the international amateur free agent frenzy and the Kyle Tucker signing, it was a very crazy day on January 15. However, there were other moves to speak of. The Diamondbacks added a reliever, bringing back Taylor Clarke. Meanwhile, the Mets added more international pool money via a trade.
Diamondbacks re-sign Clarke
Arizona signed reliever Taylor Clarke on January 15. Clarke, a former third-round pick of the Diamondbacks from 2015, pitched in three MLB seasons (2019-21) with Arizona.
Clarke had a very solid 2025 campaign, highlighted by a 3.25 ERA and a .256 opponents’ wOBA with the Royals last season.
Additionally, the Diamondbacks designated Gus Varland for assignment.
Minor trades
There were two trades on the 15th. One saw the Mets acquired international signing bonus pool money (notable, since the pool opened up on 1/15) from the Cleveland Guardians for Franklin Gomez.
Gomez, a 20-year-old left-hander, struck out 68 and walked 34 over 71.2 IP between High-A Brooklyn and Low-A St. Lucie in 2025. Low-to-mid-90s fastball that capped out at 96 MPH this season in St. Lucie, coupled with a slider, a cutter, and a changeup.
The other saw the Reds traded pitcher Yosver Zulueta to the Seattle Mariners for Dusty Revis.
The 27-year-old Zulueta pitched in parts of two MLB seasons with the Reds in 2024 and 2025. He struck out plenty of batters in the Minors, as this past season, he punched out 78 over 60.1 IP juxtaposed to 32 walks. Hard fastball and sinker, to go along with a changeup and slider.
Revis was an 11th-round pick by the Mariners out of Western Carolina last season. A 22-year-old right-hander, Revis struck out 78 over 82.1 IP during the 2025 college season.
