The Yankees have had to do without several key bats for much of the 2026 season. Giancarlo Stanton is one such of those players, and the Yankees will be without Stanton for an even longer period of time, thanks to a setback sustained during his rehab.
Updates on Yankees’ injuries
Giancarlo Stanton suffered yet another setback.
Stanton suffered a left calf strain, per manager Aaron Boone. This comes after the Yankees’ DH missed months due to a right calf strain and slowly began to ramp up workouts over the past weeks. Boone indicated that it will be tough for Stanton to return this season.
Starter Ryan Weathers, meanwhile, was removed early against the Blue Jays due to forearm tightness.
Arraez leaves early
The Phillies removed infielder Luis Arraez after two at-bats against the Cardinals.
Per the club, it was due to lower-body cramps.
Ohtani throws live BP
Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani threw a live BP session before the club’s game against the Pirates. Ohtani tossed 30 pitchers, and Dave Roberts indicated that he’ll need to do another round before being cleared to pitch in an in-game setting (h/t New York Times).
On a related note, Ohtani faced Will Smith during that BP session. Smith is working his way back from a neck injury.
IL moves
One day after Andy Pages suffered a hand fracture, the Dodgers placed the outfielder on the injured list. Per manager Dave Roberts, Pages is looking at a four-to-five-week absence.
Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel was placed on the 10-day IL with a right intercostal muscle strain.
The Cardinals placed pitcher Hunter Dobbins on the 15-day IL with right forearm tightness.
Nationals pitcher Connelly Early (elbow inflammation) was transferred to the 60-day IL. Early won’t be eligible to return until early September.
Rehab assignments
For Triple-A Worcester, Trevor Story went 1-for-4, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 0-for-3 with a walk.
Other notes
Mariners infielder Brendan Donovan was a late scratch after he was hit by a ball in the batting cage before their game against the Cubs.
Rangers third baseman Jake Burger was removed on August 22 due to a left wrist contusion.
CJ Abrams (ankle) and Masyn Winn (thumb) did not start for their respective clubs.
