It was a day of walk-offs and standout performances across MLB on August 3. Both the Mariners and Red Sox won it in the ninth against their respective opponents. Luis Robert Jr. tagged his old team for two home runs, while JJ Bleday hit for the cycle against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Brewers take down Atlanta
Yet again, the Braves’ offense struggled in Milwaukee as the Brewers won 4-1 to claim their 81st victory of the season.
Atlanta took a 1-0 lead early thanks to a Michael Harris II RBI double in the first. But in the third, William Contreras drove in Cooper Pratt with an RBI single. Jake Bauers drove in both Contreras & himself with a two-run shot later that frame. And in the fourth, a Cooper Pratt RBI single made it 4-1.
The two clubs will conclude the series in a neutral-site game on August 23, as the Brewers and Braves will play in the annual Little League Classic.
Sox win 70th game in 2026
The Red Sox walked off the Giants to win 3-2, picking up their 70th victory of the season.
San Francisco was in control for much of this game. Willy Adames and Andrew Knizner each hit solo home runs, while Blade Tidwell struck out seven over 5.2 scoreless innings.
But in the ninth, Eli White made it 2-1 with an RBI single. Nick Sogard tied it with a double. Wilyer Abreu had a liner stopped by Bryce Eldridge but Eldridge couldn’t throw White out at home to preserve the tie.
Mariners walk off Cubs
The Mariners walked the Cubs 5-4, thanks to Randy Arozarena‘s second home run of the game.
Down 4-2 with two outs in the ninth, Weston Wilson hit a double to keep Seattle alive. Leo Rivas drove Wilson in with a bloop single to right. And in the next at-bat, Arozarena hit one over Pete Crow-Armstrong‘s head to win it.
The day also marked Kade Anderson‘s debut. It was a mixed bag for the left-hander, as he struck out five over 5.2 IP against the Cubs. However, Alex Bregman and Michael Busch tagged him for home runs.
Robert Jr. goes deep twice in Chicago
The ball will fly in Chicago during the summer. That was true on the 22nd, as the Mets and White Sox combined for seven total home runs, five of which were hit by the Mets in a 10-5 win for New York.
It was a grand day for the Mets’ offense, as four players (Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, Jared Young, and Luis Robert Jr.) each had two hits. Robert Jr. hit two home runs off his old team, one against Luis Castillo, and the other against old teammate Huascar Brazoban.
Carson Benge had three hits, one of which was a home run.
Bleday hits for cycle
The Reds won 11-5 on the heels of a cycle from outfielder JJ Bleday.
Bleday started the scoring against the Diamondbacks with an RBI double in the first. He drove in Sal Stewart with an RBI triple in the third, singled in the fourth, and then hit a solo shot off Zack Littell to complete the cycle.
Aside from Bleday, Elly De La Cruz snapped a cold spell with a four-hit game. Hector Rodriguez hit his first career MLB home run.
