The Blue Jays received some positive news on Dylan Cease, even though that news may not help over the final week. Alex Bregman, injured on the 20th, will look to come back during the postseason. As for the Tigers, Justin Verlander is primed for one more outing in the Majors.
Updates on Blue Jays’ injuries
Plenty of injury updates regarding the Blue Jays, one of six teams in action on September 21. Dylan Cease will not need surgery after he underwent an MRI on his shoulder. However, it’s not known whether Cease will pitch again this season.
Cease is dealing with shoulder inflammation.
The Blue Jays were without Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the 21st, as he sat with a back injury.
Brett Bateman was removed with hip discomfort after he injured himself on a catch attempt.
Bregman diagnosed with facial fractures
Per ESPN, Alex Bregman was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures after a freak bounce off the bat of Michael Busch hit the third baseman in the face.
It’ll end his 2026 regular season, although the report indicated that Bregman is hopeful he can return at some point during the postseason.
IL moves
After Bryce Eldridge missed the weekend series in Los Angeles after a hotel accident, he was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion, retroactive to September 18.
Jung Hoo Lee, meanwhile, was placed on the 10-day IL with a groin contusion.
Tigers infielder Colt Keith was placed on the 10-day IL with a left thumb sprain. He was one of two Tigers to hit the injured list. Troy Melton, who was removed early on the 20th, was placed on the IL with arm fatigue.
Roki Sasaki (Dodgers), Andy Pages (Dodgers), Tony Gonsolin (Royals), Trey Yesavage (Blue Jays), and Marcelo Mayer (Giants) were activated off the injured list.
Other notes
Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is expected to come off the IL and make his final MLB appearance on September 26.
