There was some notable injury-related news on September 17, even though it was a light day of MLB action. Everson Pereira and Johan Oviedo went out on rehab assignments. Willson Contreras left in Texas, while Jared Young was taken off the field in Flushing after he sustained a head injury.

Contreras left in Texas

Before the Red Sox made a comeback against the Rangers, Willson Contreras exited with a hand injury.

Contreras was hit with a 92 MPH inside fastball before his eventual exit.

Young exits after blow to head

Mets first baseman Jared Young left in the sixth inning against the Phillies after a gruesome injury. Young and pitcher Nolan McLean both went for a ground ball, and McLean wound up hitting Young in the head while attempting to field.

Young was down for several minutes before he was taken off the field via a stretcher.

After the game, manager Andy Green noted that Young is dealing with concussion symptoms. The good news is that a CT scan came back negative.

IL moves

Taylor Walls (Rays) and Josiah Gray (Nationals) were activated from the injured list.

Phillies pitcher Caleb Kilian was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Red Sox pitcher Johan Oviedo struck out four over 2.1 IP (40 pitches) for Triple-A Worcester, allowing two hits and a walk.

Cardinals outfielder Everson Pereira went 1-for-3 with two walks and a strikeout for Triple-A Memphis.

Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka went 3-for-5 with a home run for Triple-A Round Rock.

Other notes

One day after he was pulled with a wrist injury, Colson Montgomery (wrist) did not play against the Tigers.

Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (neck) was out for precautionary reasons.

Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman (thumb) missed his third straight contest on September 17.
