Jose Urquidy has bounced around over the past year. The ex-Astro started 2026 with the Pirates, spent time in Chicago with the White Sox, and is now back in Pennsylvania with the Phillies. Philadelphia claimed him on September 17, one of several moves made on the day.

Urquidy lands with Phillies

The Phillies claimed Jose Urquidy off waivers from the White Sox.

Urquidy was designated for assignment on September 15, as Chicago shook up their bullpen a bit amidst a late-season run to the finish. The right-hander didn’t pitch badly with the Sox, despite the fact that Urquidy struck out 15 over 22.2 IP. Urquidy owned a 4.37 ERA and walked just five.

Reliever Caleb Kilian, acquired at the deadline by Philadelphia, was transferred to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man roster spot for Urquidy.

Brewers cut reliever

The Brewers designated pitcher Rob Zastryzny for assignment.

Zastryzny saw 35 games of action with Milwaukee between 2024 and 2025. However, the veteran left-hander didn’t pitch at all at the MLB level this season. He appeared in 13 games with Triple-A Nashville.

A left shoulder/trapezius strain forced him to stay on the IL for the entire 2026 season. Zastryzny was on the 60-day IL as of the move.

Recalls & options

Landon Knack (Dodgers) and Cameron Weston (Mets) were recalled from Triple-A. Weston was claimed by the Mets earlier in the month from the Orioles.

Joey Loperfido (Astros), Andrew Pinckney (Nationals), Bobby Miller (Dodgers), Nick Madrigal (Rays), and Xzavion Curry (Mets) were optioned to the Minors.

Other notes

The Nationals released pitcher Wyatt Mills. Mills, claimed by the Nationals back in August, did not pitch in a Major League game for Washington.
