It’s been a strong year thus far for Bryce Harper but he was slowed on May 9, albeit likely temporarily. Additionally, Kerry Carpenter suffered a shoulder injury in Kansas City, while the Giants will be without ace Logan Webb in the interim.
Harper removed with migraine
Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper was removed from the team’s game on May 9 thanks to a migraine, per the team.
Harper started the game but did not go out to hit in the first. He was seen on the Phillies’ broadcast talking to the team’s athletic trainer before he exited the contest. Felix Reyes replaced him in the lineup.
Carpenter nursing shoulder injury
Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter was removed from the team’s game against the Royals due to shoulder soreness.
Carpenter banged into the wall in the right field corner at Kaufmann Stadium while he was trying to field a ball hit from Bobby Witt Jr., which wound up being an inside-the-park home run.
IL moves
The Giants placed pitcher Logan Webb on the 15-day IL with right knee bursitis.
Twins pitcher Taj Bradley was placed on the 15-day IL with right pectoralis muscle inflammation.
Astros pitcher Bennett Sousa landed on the IL with left elbow inflammation.
The Dodgers placed reliever Brock Stewart on the IL with a left foot bone spur.
Additionally, Brandon Lockridge was placed on the injured list with a laceration. It was sustained during the Brewers’ game on May 9.
Hunter Brown (shoulder) and Tommy Edman (ankle) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts went 1-2 with a walk and a strikeout for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Betts yielded for a defensive substitution after six innings.
Phillies reliever Zach Pop struck out one over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad went 1-3 for Double-A Chesapeake.
Other notes
Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon will come off the IL on May 10.
Addison Barger, Blake Snell, and Justin Slaten came off the injured list.
